I like the idea of a lever gun, that doesn't say evil at all.. but I'd probably go with a shotgun.

I know that a business owner can have a firearm at his place of biz. However,
I would think that a boss would frown on an employee packing simply due to
liability issues.

I'd have to go with a 12 bore pump or a lever rifle. I often carry "trunk guns" and find that a 12 ga pump with a wide selection of ammo (slugs, buck and birdshot) make it a very versatile option.

A milsurp bolt gun with stripper clips might work out, but as mentioned earlier they tend to shoot too far and penetrate too much for most applications. It's a pity that such a rifle does not exist in .223 or .762X39.

You are wanting two guns in your trunk.
1. A locked box with a handgun, holster and loaded magazines.

2. An unlocked, easy to access and open case with either an SKS, a Saiga, or an M1A. Which depends on your budget, preferences and car insurance coverage.

The vest/jacket with ARMED CITIZEN printed on it sounds like a decent idea too. Although if you're gonna go that far, you might as well make it a surplus kevlar vest.

Thanks everyone. I think a Saiga fits the bill. A shotgun in most cases would be great, but loading it takes more time than I would like. I like the idea of inserting the magazine, chambering the rifle and having a very reliable autloader that does not look like an AK-47. This is strictly for DEFENSE. I like a .357 Levergun, trapper size so 16 inch barrel, with a butt cuff on it with 5 or 6 rounds of .357 ready to load into the side gate. Legal and quick to action.

I might opt for something more obvious in terms of ID. Something everyone can get behind. Like LIFE SAVER. Or HUMAN SHIELD. Or speaking of offensive shields, CAPT. AMERICA.

I keep a Sig P6 locked and unloaded in a car safe in the back of my PU for when needed, I keep a loaded magazine in the glove box. it is easy and fast to put the 2 together.
