It's bs. I would be livid if the agreed on price was altered in the other parties favor. I too have been lucky and only dealt with quality cgers. We usually end up talking for quite a while afterwards as well. Thanks to everyone I've done business with here keeping me from being more cynical than i already am :-)

If the item is as listed, no material undisclosed issues, and the price has been agreed to, offering a lower price is just bad form.

What was their iTrader score? If it's zero then I'd be inclined to ask for at least a $20 deposit. That way if they no show or try to low ball you can just leave and it won't be a total loss on your part. There was a member here who kept trying to lowball people and would always say he'd take various guns that were priced at the $400 mark. Then he'd show up with only $300 and say that was the best he could do.

The person that would lowball you at the FFL is a classless jerk. I too would walk away with nothing else said.

I've bought and sold many guns on here and on Gunbroker.com. I've only had one bad experience. A guy agreed to buy a heavy barrel for a Mosin Nagant for $70. He showed up at the meeting place and only had $10. He said he would get the rest to me "by the end of the month." I agreed and shook his hand. It took almost a year to get him to pay up.
His name is Jason. Maybe you've heard of him.

The agreed upon price is the price, unless something like poor disclosure of item makes a difference...

Dick move on the buyer. The only time I would ever negotiate after a price is agreed upon is if there is something wrong with the gun that I wasn't informed of. If someone tried that on me I would leave. They are planning on you thinking to yourself "well I already made the drive what is $50" but they also had to go out of their way for the purchase so why wouldn't the seller have just as much leverage to say the price is now $550 not $500?

IMHO, the only time the price can be renegotiated is if there's some sort of misrepresentation or unintentional omission.

I met a CG'r to buy a Benelli M1S90 w/factory Comp. It was listed as BNIB. The seller walks in with it slung over his shoulder.

- I ask, "Where's the box?"
- He says, "There's no box."
- I say, "But you're OP said 'BNIB'?!"
- He said, "I meant it was LIKE a new one in the box."

I look it over. It had clearly been used...

- I say, "It's used?!"
- He says, "Yeah, I guess I screwed up!"

He was asking $900, I told him I'd take it for $700. He agreed. This was the only time the price changed on a deal, but it was warranted.

It is a negotiation process. My wife might be pretty to me and you find her ugly.



I don't see how one would make a full price offer on anything except a new firearm until detailed pictures and or inspection.

I went 30 miles out of my way once to meet a Calgunner for a purchase after agreeing on the deal by email. When I got there, he tried to negotiate $200 off the price. I said no and closed the gun case. He said that he would pay the original price, but I turned around and walked out.

My other favorite was the Calgunners who tried to negotiate me down after we met at the FFL because he "didn't realize my ad had been posted for two months." He thought I had just listed the gun. WTF? He wanted the gun at the asking price if I had just posted it, but wasn't going to pay that amount if had it been up for awhile? And he dragged me 20 miles from home to figure this out? That is definitely not someone I am reducing the price for.

Post a LOT of good photos, all angles, give a REALLY good description, leave nothing out, state the good AND the bad clearly, and be firm on price for that reason. A good ad should have no less than 12 photos of the gun at different angles, close-ups of any flaws, with the action open, etc.

If your ad is good enough, staying firm on your price is fair and warranted because it leaves out any room for surprise.

The internet and digital cameras (even most phone cameras are now 5 mega-pixels and up) make it so easy to not need "an inspection" for additional determination - OR "negotiation."
