    Buyers Negotiating During Transfer Process

I've sold 2 gun on Calguns this year. Last week I sold a S&W 629-2. Both time after arriving at the LGS to complete the transfer both buyers tried to offer $100 less than agreed too. I guess this is just a rant, however, if you agree to a price then don't show up and try to negotiate again.

It seems that some buyers think that because you're selling you must be desperate. Fortunately, I'm not in that situation.

I guess seller beware. In both instances I was willing to walk away. In the end both ended up purchasing the gun for the original agreed price.

The first gun in question was a Gen4 17FDE. I had people send me PM's offering more than the original price. However, I sold the gun for less to the person who sent me the first PM and he still tried to offer less.

I guess that will teach me for trying to be a stand up guy.

yeah unless you're desperate to sell.. walk away..

once a price is agreed it's the matter of where to meet and when

not... hey would you take $100.00 less than what we agreed upon?

and if they don't agreed to buy it that warrants a negative iTrader if time and gas was wasted on your part..

    RANT warranted !!

All negotiating/ haggling should be done through PM, prior to even meeting up or arranging a meeting place. If it were me, and the buyer tried to haggle an already agreed upon price while we were at the FFL, I would simply walk away and take the next person up on their offer. It's pretty low of a buyer to haggle even more even after he agreed to pay a certain price.

On my sales, I'll agree with the buyer that the price decided on in PMs emails etc is contingient on inspection if the buyer feels it necessasy, but all that means if the gun is not as described, the buyer is not obligated to buy it, that doesnt mean now it's haggle time, I'd walk away and refuse to deal with the guy again.

LOL. While I've never had an issue and if I COMMIT to buy something at a given price, I will, I also understand that if I'm just going to meet someone and an inspection is warranted, I could see a negotiation of priced based on the inspection. Of course, the inspection could be made elsewhere prior to meeting at a FFL to do a PPT.

That's just disrespectful honestly. You are meeting with said buyer because of an agreed upon price, there should be no price haggling face to face.

I'm glad you've been willing to walk away from the sale, people should not be getting away with that kind of thing.

Can't blame them for trying, if they give a counter offer either accept or decline. Going off that continue with the transaction. But if they start giving you a hard time say take it or leave it and be done. Then leave a neutral if it becomes an issue.

I've had this happen on both ends, I've had a guy try to up my buying price to compete with another buyer last mine at time we were supposed to have met. So I was left alone at the LGS.. I've also had guys try to down buy me in parts I have F/S.. Again can't blame them for trying but I have had guys try to explain how it's yada yada yada and act like it's an I justice to ask what I do.

Again I tell them calmly price is firm take it or leave it. All have taken it. Buyers will be burgers sellers will be seller then there are just scammers. Just part of the game.

I had this happen this weekend, I am selling my Kayak. The buyer was communicating with me for the last week trying to get me to lower the price. After insisting I would not he agreed to the price and we set an appointment for Sat morning.

He showed up saying he only had 60 less that what we agreed to. I basically told him to leave and not contact me again. He then 'FOUND' the 60 he needed to be able to pay me my price. I told him I will not sell to him even if he offered me more than I was asking and I asked him to leave...

I have no time for these morons and the games they may play after the sale.

If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough.

I am continually impressed by the sincerity, honesty, and integrity of the cg community. Unfortunately, there are always a few bad apples. When you think about it, we are often buying/selling a potentially dangerous product. We buy with a visual inspection but how many ever test fire the gun. There really has to be a high level of trust there. I really think cger's are good people.

No, I do not play that game, at all. In fact, if the buyer feels it is open season on renegotiating the price why not just run the price up on them $50.00?

Ya' know what's fun to do with these people?

When they try to negotiate the $100 off the Agreed Upon Price tell them "No, that's not what we agreed on, and now the price has gone up $100."

They usually think you're just kidding, and then when they say okay to the agreed upon price, watch their face when you stick to the higher price.

"Well, I can knock the price down $100 for you, but I'll be taking the slide home with me. Oh, you need a slide? Well, it just so happens I can sell you one for an extra $100!"

And no, it's not part of the game. There are different parts of a sale: the offer, the negotiating, closing the deal. When the negotiating is done and you've agreed to close the deal, it's past time to negotiate.

Trying to negotiate after you've agreed on a price and cost the seller time and money (drive expenses) then it's in bad faith to try and re-negotiate just because you've cost them money. I think that type of shenanigans deserves negative i-trader.

If you agreed to meet and inspect an item without talking price, then it's appropriate to negotiate on the spot and either close the deal or leave. But if a price is agreed in advance, then it's a done deal.
