No matter how much the guy owes in grazing fees, it's really not worth the possible loss of life.

Fact is, BLM has been permitting grazing (with fees) for over 80 years. If you're in the ranching business, it's nothing new. He should have been prepared to pay the fees or otherwise not grazed his cattle there. We can be morally or philosophically opposed to all kinds of laws or how certain agencies govern or conduct themselves, but it doesn't change the real world consequences to not knowing or disobeying the law.

I never said anything about agreeing or disagreeing with the sentiment of either side of the situation, simply gave my support to a post I took to demonstrate the reality that if one does not want to be hassled, they ought to make sure they abide by the rules. If they are willing to engage in protracted legal battle over a philosophical issue, then more power to them.
To many things wrong here. We got rules and laws, agree with them or not we have to follow them, got any AR's with no bullet buttons? Got a truck you don't register? Bundy knew he had to pay fees for grazing his animals. All large ranchers do. My grandpa did. Even if he didn't agree, you gotta play by the rules and pay up or don't use the land.
Our government KNEW they were in the right to collect " fees " from him.
They could have just put a lien on any real property he has and follow the legal route, instead they felt they had to display force, WRONG AGAIN!
I'm glad they had the sense to back down, altho they never should have come in with a group of armed militia to collect money/ property from an American citizen.
Like I said , to many wrongs here.
The government is wrong in the way they went about this, but you can be damn sure they are not done with him.
And his supporters, hey big brother has pictures of alot of those guys and they shouldn't be to surprised to find themselves and their lifestyles to be scrutinized. Remember the tea party members who were harassed by the IRS?
    Yeah to many wrongs here.

No wonder that most Criminals wear Hoods. They are afraid of the IRS.

They did. This started over 20 years ago and they went to court twice. Bundy lost both times. Bundy didn't appeal and he ignored orders to remove his stock from the land. For many years Bundy has ignored demands to comply and continued to graze his cattle there.

            Yep.

            also:
There are a whole lot of folks who are darned lucky that no one had a negligent discharge whilst all of those rifles were being pointed in all directions and especially at the Feds who were probably about as nervous as anyone would be in this type of situation. The result could've been horrendous.

                  Yes it will.

If nothing else, I can see the BLM writing off the debt and filling a 1099 for him.

Think the IRS will back down so easily? Pshh.

This guy is the absolute stupidest person to have a call to arms for. Of all the crap happening in this country, the militias are willing to fight for some jerkoff who thinks he's entitled to graze on land that, ultimately, belongs to the people?

To those saying the Gov't will track down people who were there, or raid the Bundy home in the middle of the night......although I put nothing past our Gov't right now. Just think of the message that will send. The next time there is a standoff people will just start shooting instead of allowing Gov't agents to peacefully retreat, cuz if they're just gonna come for you later in the dead of night.....better to just make them dead in broad daylight.

If doors start getting kicked in.....I sure wouldn't want to be a lone BLM ranger out in the field, talk about the Gov't painting a target on you.....they'll have to start traveling in full armored convoys everywhere they go.

Yeah right! Only in your "patriotic rebel" wet dream. These fools are lucky they weren't gunned down. I imagine if a bunch of blacks/browns did the same it would have turned out and been viewed different. These folks sure did pick a stupid issue to make a stand for. If they are not careful they will end up like Lt. Col. George Armstrong Custer.

If you're going to pick a issue to gather the citizenry this one surly isn't it. Anti American government redneck patriots screaming about their constitutional rights while not wanting to acknowledge the government.

Then people wonder why no one wants to vote for or be affiliated with neo-conservatives or Republicans and they keep, and will continue to, get crushed at the polls. You can try and mask it as patriotism but people can see right through the facade/schrade.

Bundy family's rights established originally by the desert land act of 1877.Their rights predate any agreement made with BLM. But this has all been discussed in another thread. No need to rehash this here.
                          Many people conveniently overlook this.

Is there anything about letting some cows graze in the desert that somehow inhibits any and all use of said land for other purposes by the public?

I'll state it a different way. That land is still available for unlimited use by the public despite some cows grazing on it. Want to go shoot out there or ride your dirt bike from one side of the state to the other? There's nothing stopping you as long as you kindly replace the gates after you pass through.

I'd wager that Bundy's use of the land for grazing provides more economic value to his community and to the State of Nevada than you, I or anyone else going out to the desert to shoot our AR-15s and leaving a mess behind does.

Good correction, I was basing my estimation on the Taylor Grazing Act of 1934 which obviously wouldn't have been enforced by BLM if they hadn't been formed yet.
