SG is among the best of online ammo vendors. And this post doesn't change a thing.
You're right. It's just a pretty lame response.

I'm not sure what the appropriate response would have been (send a single round to make the OP happy? A small credit to his account? A sincere apology?), but I know it isn't to insist that, "We never make mistakes." Everyone makes mistakes.

I never knew people counted every round in a bulk order, it must be great to have that much free time.

Buy WWB value packs. It is packed by weight and there are usually 1-3 extra rounds in every box of 9mm.

SG ammo is great, I will continue to purchase the majority of my ammo from them. Take your $.38 and move on.

this whole count out your 500 stuff has me perplexed.

I would probably address that behavior first. It is mildly entertaining for many of us though.

Of course, your party, you can do as you please.
I always thought loose pack stuff was by weight, as some others here have stated.
Nonetheless, you were shorted. They owe you that one round if it was sold only by actual count.

I imagine if I was the guy at SG that received his complaint, I would probably have been a little incredulous about someone writing me over 1 round with a picture of the whole little battalion at parade rest there.

I may even have got a little snippy in my reply, may even have sent him 2 rounds as replacement and chalk it up to a miscount.
I may even have been rude.

May not be the best policy, but I do think vendors should be able to fire customers that are problematic.
I may be wrong, and it is only my opinion, but I don't really think the OP was being problematic.
The counted in rows thing is a little toward the edge the proverbial "bell" curve of normal though.

I bet the person that replied from SG kind of regrets being rude, especially with the backlash this causes(which will in all likelihood be pretty limited).

SGammo has always gtg, no complaints from me. If I got shorted a round in a spam can or in sealed 1000 rnd case of com-bloc surplus, oh well...

maybe... or maybe you won't have problems if you stick to the vendors no one has a problem with. There are a few. Whole threads where everyone says good things about the vendor the thread is about.

His response was unprofessional, but I dont get the need to email them over 1 round. No business will have 100 % perfect quality.

OP, did you say you were missing 1 round from your bulk order of 500?

I think I got it on my last order, 501 rounds here.

If you'd like to send me a self addressed stamped envelope, insured of course. Pay for my time spent shipping, I'll send it out to you.

+1. But I'd email if it happened again.

Not only that but if you actually did boycott every gun store ammo retailer/wholesaler and what have you that the CG community constantly asks people to boycott we would not have any place else to buy things from. At some point every retailer has pissed someone off for something.

Kinda doubt that since you can't overnight ammo.

I for one wouldn't care much if it were just one round for a bulk order, but u want what you paid for. I've had that happen on bulk orders from 2 different stores through out the years but for the most part it's just going in my stash of ammo so no big deal. Sgammo is gtg with me but kind of unprofessional reply from them. Probably a bad day.

I've actually counted ammo when I was prepping it out for resale. Forgot what it was but each box was consistently a few rounds over. I didn't feel obligated to contact the vendor and inform them of their "mistake". Just like I would never dream of contacting a vendor over a one freakin' round shortage on a bulk order. Whenever I sell bulk ammo, I just weigh 50, times it by the amount I'm shipping and toss in another 10-15 rounds. It's just not that big a deal.

For those of you making fun of me for counting out the rounds, go to hell. I've never done that before, and I've bought many tens of thousands of rounds.

I bought an M1 Thompson last year here on Calguns, and this Saturday I took eight kids (one of them mine) to the range to shoot the closest thing any of them will probably ever get to a "Tommy Gun." I also gave them time on an M1 Garand, a Lee Enfield, a 1911, and a PPSh-41. They had the time of their lives, and as we talked about the action these guns or their cousins had seen, it turns out that there were about half of them that had been brainwashed in high school about WWII being fought over the Holocaust. We were able to talk a little real history, as well as the difference between causation and correlation.

I wanted to give each of them their own baggie of 50 rounds of .45 so that they could all have the same amount of trigger time on the Thompson and 1911. They got various amounts of ammo for the different guns I have, according to what I could afford to buy for them. I also used the round rationing to give them a taste of the idea that ammo is a limited commodity, and whether for fun or for business, it's worth savoring/considering each one you cycle.

So I laid out the rounds in neat little rows so that I could scoop them up into 10 baggies. Well look there, the first time I ever count out a bunch of stinking rounds, I'm one short. Fortunately I had enough for all the kids (young adults really, they are 15-19) and leftovers. I dropped a note to let SGAmmo know - if I owned a business, as an honest man I'd want to know so I could review my process. That is it. I got unexpected attitude instead of a simple "Oh, thanks for letting us know," followed by even more attitude, so I posted. That's fair.

But that is why I counted that crap out. A couple people joked about OCD, and that s&&t was funny. Others have been rude, not funny. The haters are gonna hate, and that's on them, not me.
