That's certainly true. My experience is wholly based on San Diego and Los Angeles to a lesser extent. I'm sure Austin is a cool place to hang out, but it's not where I grew up and formed my opinions about people.

I was thinking the same thing at that part. Like a small dog barking at you from the fence that just runs away when you walk up to it. Bad form... it sucks because I agree with the cameraman, but I wouldn't associate with that clown in a million years.

Well it's illegal to carry long guns openly in SD and LA. cops in those cities tend to be pricks from what I've seen. For some odd reason cops are pretty nice around where I live as well as in San Francisco. Probably not too gun friendly though.

He would have gotten shot in my area. Perhaps not by a cop but someone passing by...

I am surprised the guy didn't get shot or tasered...

The guy is an attention whore and could of have a much better way to exercise his 1st & 2nd amendments and not have his firearms confiscated.

I agree with this. The child was not properly handling his firearm. You can see in the vid the rifle is slung horizontally at his hip, muzzling his buds and all of the public. The officer confirms this later.
He further displays a lack of respect for his firearm when its given back to him; he slams in the mag and then proceeds to waive it in every direction while picking up his stuff (again muzzling all around).
I'm all for his right to carry, but strongly disagree with his respect for his firearm. How many would allow that behavior to happen around them at the range, let alone a public street?

Agreed.. he could have handled his rifle better..

The officer could have handled it better..

Yea the guy ended up being an *** but that doesn't change the fact that the officer was in the wrong. Continued to be an *** when all he had to do was a check to satisfy the call. Maybe he could have educated the man on how to properly carry his rifle.

I would be pretty irritable if I was being harassed by the very people that are paid to uphold the law and understand it.

I honestly don't understand some of you guys who seem to worship LEOs like they are gods who can do what they please and don't have laws to follow or oaths to uphold. This isn't a 3rd word country this is America. Freedom first. They serve US not the other way around.
Don't get me wrong I'm not against open carry or concealed carry. I just don't get why anyone would be afraid to show their ID unless they were a criminal.

I know there are good and bad LEO's. I also know LEA's receive descriptions of criminals that are at large from all across country all the time. If the LEO had wanted to be a jerk. When the guy refused to show his ID the LEO could have checked his list and if his description fit one on list. I think the LEO could have detained him until it could be proved who he is.

If he wasn't wearing a badge it could turn into the wild wild west.
That is a good point though. Wonder what the guy in the video would have done had that happened to him?

The only point of them doing this is to make these stupid videos showing how smart they are about the law. This screams "LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME!"

Showing tyranny that you have rights pisses them off.

yeah... the right to keep and bear arms, keep and bear! not agreeing with how one bears and siding with those who break the law isn't in the gray area, it's as white (wrong) as it gets...

If an officer asks me for ID when he has no reason to I would not provide it to him for multiple reasons. 1) It's my right to refuse 2) The officer requesting my ID to run it basically means " I wanna run you and make sure you're not the criminal I think you are " I don't like such assumptions. 3) By submitting to their authority that makes me their b-i-t-c-h and I'm not going to let some loser with a funny costume and badge feel like they have the right to do whatever they want. I want them to know they are the servants and WE are the masters and that their job is to serve and protect us not to harass us. Any reasonable person would know that criminals NEVER EVER open carry firearms, so to harass a law abiding citizen is evil.

Actually if a California LEO is investigating a call for service and you match the given description you have no right to refuse to provide ID. You will be detained until ID is satisfactorily proven.

Refusal to provide ID only applies to consensual encounters which this clearly was not.
