Only if they were looking for that criminal and there was a criminal that matched his description but he would be lying out of his ***. The cop tried to weasel out a justification by claiming the gun was pointed TOWARDS him and multiple times he made the claim and then seconds later said the gun wasn't pointed towards him... the bottom line is the cop illegal detained, harassed, and seized a law abiding citizens property. PERIOD.

I honestly don't understand some of you guys who seem to worship LEOs like they are gods who can do what they please and don't have laws to follow or oaths to uphold. This isn't a 3rd word country this is America. Freedom first. They serve US not the other way around.

So if I walk up to you on the street and flip you off instead of punching you in the mouth, I must be the greatest guy on the planet, right?

Just because the idiot cop wasn't being the biggest ****head he could be, doesn't make him "nice".

If he wasn't wearing a bade would you say he was nice? Imagine if someone came up to you open carrying and lied aout you pointing a gun towards them and then proceeded to aim a LOADED GUN AT YOU.

While I see absolutely no reason for camera man to stand on a median with a rifle and a flag, I do support his right to be there.
And there is no law saying you must be the kind, courteous Mr. Citizen: it's nice, and it's what you SHOULD do as a kind person, but you are NOT required.

TL;DR the police are acting completely out of line and Camera Man was a jerk, but that was all.

I'd also like to see how things happened before the video started. He didn't (the first cop) seem like an *** hole by any means. I'd be more pissed off at the cowardly public who called the police on him in the first place, undoubtedly exaggerating an American exercising his rights to 911 in a manner that the police would have to show up all hot and bothered. Even I have to grudgingly admit cops have a job to do sometimes.

I wonder how many points that genius 2nd year law student who could run circles around any of those guys (the author's words, not mine) lost for not knowing that the frontage and sidewalk are city property... I know it's irrelevant to the event, but when you're going to play the "I'm smarter than you" card, it's important that you don't make yourself look like a dumb ***.

Still, lucky him for living where he does. In San Diego, there'd have been a full on paramilitary response, he would died in a hail of bullets as he turned to face the first person barking commands at him, and someone's dog would have been shot for good measure.

Guess I'm neutral on this one. Weird.

All of my encounters so far with police have been positive. They start the encounter polite towards me and I recipricate the respect they show me. But if the officer was acting outside of the law and like an ******* like the cop in this video I would get in his face and threaten lawsuits as well.

Not an ******* by ANY means? The officer pulls up an a LAW ABIDING CITIZEN engaged in LEGAL ACTIVITY. He then proceeds to LIE about having a weapon pointed towards him when camera footage shows that's clearly a lie and he proceeded to pointa loaded gun at the law abiding citizen. Illegally detained him and seized his property and then told him he wouldn't release his property until he showed him ID. Acted like a complete jackass and wouldn't name who his supervisor is. Sergeants have supervisors.

The guy is an attention whore and could of have a much better way to exercise his 1st & 2nd amendments and not have his firearms confiscated.
Agreed. Also when the one deputy hands back his rifle he is holding it parallel to the ground, muzzling anyone down the sidewalk.

I have nothing against exercising your first and second amendment rights, but idiots who go out with the single purpose of causing a scene with LEOs need to take a step back and realize how they are negatively affecting the 2A fight.

exactly, and just because you CAN, doesn't always mean you SHOULD. I just don't think its the best idea to stand in your front yard on a busy street with an AR in a sling. Even when I'm going to the range, I make sure all my weapons are in cases when putting them in my vehicle. I'm not trying to freak my neighbors out or anything.

Yes, I'm aware of all that and I agree with you. Your and my definition of "*******" is what seems to be the misunderstanding here. How the first cop acted is about the absolute friendliest I've come to expect from any initial encounter with the people who enforce the State's dictates, which is nothing more than my abysmally low expectations of government employees with arresting powers, so don't misunderstand the bulk of what I said over that.

Sure was an entertaining video to watch though, which is what I'm sure was the author's intention.

I am all for people exercising rights but him and his cheerleader fan club are just looking for a problem. All the cursing at the end makes him look like an idiot. Chest thumping will get him in trouble.

Most people are freaked out by guns because they only see them in a negative light in the media. Keep hiding guns from the public and sentiment will gradually go from our side to the side of the anti-gunners. I'm not a huge fan of open carrying rifles myself but there would be days where I wouldn't mind doing it with friends for a protest or just for normalization purposes. Only time I ever open carried was on vacation to Utah,Arizona, and Nevada and that was because I wasn't 21 yet with a carry permit to carry concealed. Passed by MANY cops who clearly saw I had a gun. They never even came up to me or anything. Only people that were shocked were the European and Australian tourists visiting the Grand Canyon and other national parks.

Maybe you haven't seen how the majority of officers behave. Maybe you haven't seen videos of officers like this.

It was obvious these guys were attention whores. Why support the negative stereotype of the "gun nut"? It is my opinion that these types of videos will turn public opinion. I am all for my 2A rights, but there is a right way and wrong way to win the hearts and minds of the public, including police officers. Most of the Sheriffs I know through family and friends have no problem with citizens owning guns, just don't be a douche-bag about it.
