Dress Code at Public Gun Range?

I guess not. I was at a public outdoor range and a young couple was there with some small children. They went out to set targets and the kids were running around wearing flip flops amongst the broken glass and other jagged remains of items that people had brought to shoot up.

I mentioned to him that it might not be a good idea, as they might get cut on that stuff. He just looked at me with a "duh" expression.

I imagine that at a privately operated range there would be liability concerns with people dressed inappropriately.

You obviously don't know the meaning of "color" then. Gang colors are the types or color of clothing, or insignia that are worn by gang members to identify each other. Tattoos can also gang colors.

I was referring to insignia or tats.

My wife learned the hard way about wearing a low cut shirt to the range her first time out. She caught spent casing to the girls and that was the LAST time she wore a low cut shirt to the range!

I laugh when I see men and women alike wearing flip flops and other casual attire to the range.

Just exactly how do rednecks and high school teachers dress? Is there a uniform or at least a manual to follow? Never heard of such a thing.

Absolutely. I don't know this for certain (I could check) but for a club/range to qualify for insurance through the NRA (the only way some clubs can get insurance) I suspect that making eye and ear protection mandatory is a requirement.

High necked shirts, pants, closed toe shoes all from a purely safety aspect. Hot brass dance is quickly reciprocated by the jump out of the way of the muzzle limbo. Safety glasses and hearing protection as always. I saw a disabled person don a custom made shawl thingy once at a range as her lap area was a frequent landing zone for her or others hot brass. I thought it was a marvelous idea, and she was a helluva shot to boot!

On my last visit to the range I had a casing bounce of the wall of my lane and fall inside of my safety glasses against my eyelid, it was extremely hard to keep the gun pointed downrange. I don't think I was 100% effective.

Agreed. Ranges recommendations made as a courtesy. The only rules I care to be strictly enforced are the ones like muzzle downrange at all times, and actions open w/yahoos behind the line when cold.
