Littering was the reason they closed Angeles years ago, before the present range was built.

What about strapping a brochure holder at the entrance with some information?

Some advertising for this site, some unknown or mis understood rules of etiquette

Not sure on the legality of attaching anything to state property .. but Information is key..

Yes. Cleaning up shooting areas so anti's won't get pantybunched is kneejerk scaredycat stupidity.

In most of the area i've been to in AZ you could shoot whatever you want. It's a dry dirty god forsaken land and i love it, i've found TV's, old iceboxes, almost everything short of a car. People in CA think they shut down shooting areas due to trash, they couldn't give a crap about the trash, they just don't want you shooting period. They will use any reason they can to get us away from our right.

And this is why we are going to loose these spots.
You don't see the ground covered in bright orange bits that take years to go away as littering. The people who are fighting to close these spots down, use pictures of your bright orange "dirt", shells, and other trash to prove that shooting there should be banned.
When these spots are closed down (only a matter of time) you will blame the "antis", when the reality is, it will be just as much your fault for giving them all the ammo they need.
These are not just "shooting spots" they are public lands, do not ruin them for the rest of us.
It is our responsibility as shooters to keep these spots open for shooting.

I clean my spot better than most I've seen.I haul out all my trash, waste, casings (even .22). I shoot at the same secluded spot for years now. But I do draw the line at picking up dirt cause its painted orange on top. I never see orange pieces all over the ground next time I go back. Then again i don't blast away at thousands n thousands of clays.

Are those picking up clays also picking-up your lead? Silver lead takes years to go away.Dont shoot paper targets either, your killin trees, the antis will take pictures of shot up targets. Make sure or you may lose your spot

                      Now were talking.

                      I agree.

We always restore the land so that the only thing(s) you might see, are our tire tracks on the designated road leaving our spot, a few shot up pumpkins that the wild pigs will make very short work of and some broken clays.

Everything else we pack out along with trash that wasn't ours.

We have been harassed by the rangers for trash others leave behind. But when we told him we're shooting clays and pumpkins, he said no issue and they don't have to be picked up.

Maybe if I was in the desert I could see how the clays may not break down.

I found a scrap yard that buys up my 22 and damaged brass, if They are hard up, I've even sold them hulls (.009 each). It's always funny to me that people leave all that brass, the people leaving straight trash need to have a truck load dumped in their house.

"When you are finished, you must remove all of your targets, gun shells, etc. We recommend that you do not use clay pigeons as targets, as you can be cited for littering if you leave any debris. Even the so-called “biodegradable” clay targets remain indefinitely in the dry, fragile landscape of the desert, and their presence constitutes a visual impact on the landscape that can infringe on the enjoyment of the outdoors for other recreationalists. If you choose to use clay pigeons, be prepared to clean up all fragments large enough to see with normal vision, as well as other litter into which the clay fragments may fall. "

However this link to the Hollister office basically says to clean up after yourself (clays included).

I will call them tomorrow to confirm.
I just talked to someone at the Hollister office. Clay Pigeons ARE ALLOWED, biodegradable or not, provided you clean up as much as you can. Same goes for produce like pumpkins, etc.

So, this is not a statewide BLM rule although everyone should make an effort to either clean up the clay fragments or shoot an alternative type of target.

As a former Boy Scout, I always make it a point to leave a place cleaner than I found it, and this applies to almost anywhere I go.

For those of you planning on heading out to BLM land, check in with your local office to see what you can and cannot shoot out there.
