Clay only degrade in wet condition.

It doesn't matter if they biodegrade or not - the more trash people see out there, the worse it looks. People are just waiting for any chance to point the finger and make things illegal. So cleaning up afterwards makes it more likely you will have somewhere to shoot next weekend

Never knew clays were a no-no?

Shoot up clays at BLM and even had BLM LEOs say no issue and they don't have to be picked up.

Always packed out brass, hulls and trash, but leave clays and pumpkins or other fruit/vegetables. Never had any issues.

Are the no clays just a SoCal thing?

Can always shoot clays without the orange and no one would be able to tell.

Bottomline, treat it like it's your own front yard. Just the times we are in now and hope a few dopes doesn't screw the rest of us for years to come.

This doesn't just go for San Diego BLM but for all of California's BLM land. How hard it it to clean up after oneself? I shudder I think what some of these shooters' homes look like. Cars up on blocks on the front lawn? Ever seen an episode of Hoarders?

Clays are not restricted on all CA BLM. Please be specific as to which field offices restrict it and maybe post a link for that office before jumping all over CA shooters. I'm all for following local rules & regulations but jeez, some of you sound ridiculous. You've actually bought into the BS reasoning behind the restrictions.

I find it unfreakinbelieveable that people don't clean up after themselves.

I'm with everyone on cleaning up behind and not leaving a mess, but that will never be sufficient. Think of a public toilet where the only mechanism to keep it clean is self-policing after use. It's just a matter of time before it all goes south.

Similarly, most of us pick up behind ourselves items at home and in our yards, yet it takes regular cleaning and maintenance to keep it all clean. In the open, especially in the desert, there is also wind that will move trash around. Just look at the fences around the freeways in the open areas - they act as hairnets.

Getting upset about the trash is akin to tilting at windmills. The only solution is to have group cleanups or to pay someone to maintain the grounds. Short of that the trash will accumulate. Remember, going against the human nature never works. In this case, there is also the problem of small brass that is ejected all over the place and small pieces of targets that can break off and get lost until the wind moves them around.

Bump for taking care of the environment: Unfortunately that sign would get shot up. How about a couple quotes on a brochure that is given to every new gun purchaser...

that's the problem. if people respected the land and cleaned up after themselves, it wouldn't. and it shouldn't.

If it is out in the desert, the clay will not decompose due to the lack of enough moisture. Honestly, I think it is bad design on the industry's part. We should have a clay pigeon that is degradable when exposed to ultraviolet, and not rely on moisture and decomposing.

I wonder if NRA or the national trap/skeet/sporting clay organizations would offer a prize money for someone to design something better?
