While I am all for cleaning up after ourselves, I must say how asinine it is that something made out of DIRT is considered to be bad to leave out on the dirt!

As for the other trash, we see it out here in the desert all the time because the attitude of the urban cesspool dwellers seems to be that there are no rules once they get out here in the "wilds". Which is on top of their already ingrained inability to take responsibility for their actions or consider anyone else's needs but theirs.

I think a lot of it is the un informed.. a lot of people who go shooting are not on these forums.. they just don't know..

It is a CA thing that you can't shoot clays.. and it is absolutely ridiculous.

Those of you who are saying they are orange and take years to degrade sound ridiculous as well.. Dirt clods takes years to degrade as well.. who cares. it is not littering, it is relocating resources.. same as the lead you send down range. I don't care if it is orange or white. You are out in the desert shooting. it's gonna look like a shooting range.

I pick up all my trash when I go out shooting and then some. Pack it in Pack it out , plus some.. same thing out in gLaMis..

Pretty lame you cant go shoot trap out on BLM here in CA

You may think it sounds ridiculous, but if you think about it, it isn't. If you leave little pieces of orange "dirt" all over the place, it just gives the anti's something else to complain about, and more reasons to close the public land to shooters.. Also, if you are out in the desert, and it "looks like a shooting range" then it needs to be cleaned up!

I think the best "rule" is that if it wouldn't be found in nature, it shouldn't be left in nature.

It would be helpful if an official sign could be put up in these places warning of imminent closure if you do NOT pick up.

In a single word - liability. If BLM placed such signs in specific areas that may lead to State liability if any accident occurred. It would also designate to the yahoos that such spots are OK to shoot at.

If you have the confidence, I recommend that when you are shooting on BLM that you do a meet and greet with the others out there. Be respectfully and without any attitude. Dont just roll up on a group. Make sure you get their attention before you come close. Let them know that we are in danger of losing the land, etc. If they are shooting bottles, e-waste or any prohibited items RESPECTFULLY inform them about the illegality of doing so. Dont judge them but inform them.

We as gun owners are grouped as one. The public makes no distinction between irresponsible and responsible shooters. If we lose the land we only have ourselves to blame.

For the past 4 months I, generally by myself, make a habit to stop by the various spots on my way out to do just that. 95% of those I have encountered are clean shooters. A few were simply ignorant that clays dont degrade in our climate or spent .22 is considered litter. Educating one another will go a long way in keeping these spots open for everyone.

And as was already said, take out MORE than your fair share. If everyone picked up just a little bit more it would make a big impact.

Was out at blm in San Diego today and there were clays every where, these are PROHIBITED to shoot on blm it's because of you idiots that leave your shotgun shell hulls and clays every where that more and more spots are being closed down. We have literally a handful of spots left in San Diego and those are very very close to shutting down, trust me on that one.

Do not shoot trees or lay targets on trees
Do not shoot rocks
DO NOT SHOOT CLAYS they are bright orange and hard to miss on the floor.

Pick up all brass and hulls, this includes wads, and 22lr brass
No steel core/steel jacketed ammo steel case non magnetic is fine (got very close to getting pink gate closed down this year because of this)

Shooting fruit is fine but you still must pick up the bits of fruit or it's still littering

Stop shooting signs that pisses of the rangers out there and frankly I agree it's a slap in there face

Do not shoot across roads or on the road.

Please add if I left anything out, please I know this gets beat to death on this forum but please let's follow these rules we are in serious trouble hear in
San Diego.

I must say you covered it quite well. The only thing I would add is not to shoot at any remnants of structures. The one in particular I am talking about has lost at least 8" of height since February of 2013. These are historically significant and deserve to be left for future generations to enjoy.

The biodegradeable clays are supposed to degrade under wet conditions after a couple years. But here in SD we don't really have 'wet' conditions.

As a Boyscout I was taught to leave a place cleaner than i found it. They never told me to be happy about doing it. It absolutely disgusts me (actually pisses me the F-off) when I go into the forest and see shells/garbage lying around. Its unfortunate that any idiot can own firearms without having proper training to cover all aspects of their use.

The last time I went shooting in the Stanislaus forest, i pulled up and saw those unmistakeable red hulls lying all over the ground. While shooting, I noticed a bunch of garbage lying in the brush too.Upon further inspection I saw it was someone who had camped there and then threw all of their trash in to the bushes. This included, tons of beer cans/bottles, a foam ground pad, clothing and tons of food wrappers. I picked EVERYTHING UP and vowed to kick the snot out of the person(s) responsible. It irks me something terrible when I see people lay waste to our land.

We shoot potatoes onions pumpkins and such .
We also shoot clays but after we rake them up dig a hole and burry them. No glass or plastic targets or old TVs and such. Try to scoop up all brass too.
