He said it happened as a minor and thought it was off his record. Oh well more money for me. He called me just a little while ago and asked me to file the serial # off and give it to him and he would double the price. I told him to kiss my ***. Told him id give him $20 back for gas as well as the dros fee and the rest is mine. He just hung up. So I guess I'm keeping all of it lol. He wants to try somthing stupid he will have the wrong address. I moved recently so my address has changed lol.

I'd give him a portion of his money back, but I'd keep some of it as a nuisance tax. If it was a $600 sale, I'd probably keep $100.

^^^^This. Take out gas cost + time and refund the rest. No matter how douchey the other party is you should maintain your own professionalism and do what you feel is right.

I wouldn't refund it. If he honestly didn't know, I would refund him his money back, but he proved that was BS. Trying to implicate you into multiple firearms felonies and other nefarious activities is the final nail in the coffin.

Can you legally keep the money if no merchandise changed hands? I can see how you can deduct some % for fees and inconvenience, but keeping the whole amount and getting your merchandise back doesn't seem right.

Also, what if this guy goes to your old address and ends up hurting an innocent bystander that moved into your old place mistakenly thinking they were somehow related to you?

Well him wasting my time wasn't right either. Also as far as him hurting the people in the house I used to live in, well why would it be any different if it was me still living there? Are they somehow more innocent than my 10 month old daughter? The house I lived in is 3 cities away.

The point is what if he goes there and injures someone who had absolutely nothing to do with it? It would be different because YOU are the one choosing to keep his money. Its a glock upper on a ruger lower! Guys relax, I already offered to give the guy some of his money back, he then hung up on me. If he calls back ill give him most of his money back. Also to those of you saying "what if he comes looking for me" well what's to stop him from coming for me after I pay him the money? He may want to break in and steal my guns anyway. So I was selling a pistol to a guy I met via craigslist (ya ya I know) the guy paid me the amount in full but he failed the background check, now what? Does the pistol come back to me? Do I refund him? I've never had this happen.

This is the problem. Gun stores don't redact the other person's info like they are required to. It really pisses me off.

In terms of the OP's issue, I would maybe charge him for the gas you used..
