I agree with the OP. Its really simple, you train as you would fight. Don't think many out there walk around day to day decked out in all that c**p. It would be funny to watch someone put all that stuff on when someone is breaking into their house at 3am however.

I sleep and shower with my twin drop leg holsters. My g/f says I look hardcore when I come out of the shower and I have twin Deagles strapped to me (the left one is an airsoft but only until I get a real .357 Deagle to fill it). I know what you are thinking, but the truth is that when you train and live to be practicool tacticool then your guns have to be able to take that hardcoreness of it all too. This aint for no sissy glock gun, only a Deagle could survive this treatment. Cold hard heavy steel... I like the drop leg holsters because they allow me to soap up under my muffin top without digging into my side and the belt that they stay on is waterproof made of stingray (yeah so there, more proof it is waterproof, ever seen a mad stingray that was wet? yeah did not think so...) The mail lady also like me wearing my drop leg holsters and when it pulls my pants down ever so slightly I think I caught her checking out my whale tale once as I walked away.

Sounds to me like haters gonna hate...

Do Medal of Honor, call of duty, brothers in arms, etc. count as training?

Agreed but I don't really care what other people do with their stuff as long as they aren't preaching it like gospel to newcomers. Still, I just want someone to explain to me why every AR has a light mounted; I must be missing something.

                  Rant is ranty..

I collect lots of guns because, well, I like the unique mechanics of firearms... to be honest I really only shoot a few of them on a regular basis (all of them a little to get familiarity) but a select few a lot so I can be very proficient with them..

It seems part of the rant was against people with multiple guns? There was a lot of ranting so I might be foggy on that.

                  I don't own a plate carrier so I guess I'm good? lol

Because half of the day is dark? lol

All my AR's have enough rail to mount a small light.. but I only mount the light if I need one (night carbine class, etc)..

Although I can see where the OP is coming from and slightly agree to some of the points, I also see nothing wrong with mall ninjas.
Heck, people pretend they are Elf lords, medieval knights and civil war soldiers all the time. Why can't someone play cop or military?
If people can go to NASCAR driving schools, dress up like a driver and drive a replica around the track, why can't guys pretend they are swat members?

I understand the value of light just not AR mounted lights. Wouldn't a head mounted light be far better utility for preppers and such? Anywhere you take your AR with you I am willing to bet you take your head with you too.

For many activities, a head-mounted light is great, but you might want to think before using it for a shoot-out in the dark.

Your light shows you things, but is also a target for your enemies, since it points the way back to you.

Would you rather that they shoot at your head, or something you can hold away from your body, or even reach around cover with?

A gun mounted light with a well focused beam can also give you a good idea of where your round will go if you pull the trigger. Center the light on the threat, and you should have a good chance of hitting it if you've mounted your light properly.

Actually they do, just not with live ammo. Those MILES things are really irritating when I was using them, it was many many years ago though, I bet they have nicer toys now.

I think what the OP is saying, is that all the cool looking toys won't help if you're physically unfit. For most people, hitting the gym is more important than going to the range.

My patience with the trendy tactical BS has run out. Let me be clear that training has its place; but people running around a field with MOLLE gear, body armor, and mag pouches with an AR and a drop leg pistol holster are only training to prop up their egos.

There's nothing wrong with having fun at the range, but calling it "training" is doing a disservice to the actual activity. Rifle skills have nothing to do with concealed carry of a pistol under a cover garment. If the government's not in the picture in your neck of the woods, packing up and leaving makes more sense then hunkering down with an AR15 while your family plays backstop.

O, the world's ending and all is collapsing around you? OK. Good luck convincing whoever's operating the last evacuation vehicle to let you and your tacticool gear in. I imagine that convo's going to break down to "come on in, but leave the AR and mags outside".

Otherwise, I hope you can stuff that 500lb safe full of guns on your back for the 100 mile march out of town on foot!

The REAL, actual SF people who use this stuff for a living can do it because they're trained for MONTHS at a time on the US taxpayer's dime. Not 5 hours every month in a field with surplus store ammo. Furthermore, those skillsets exist for one purpose-efficiently murdering the enemy. Not paper targets on a one-sided range.

The person with a single handgun, monthly range practice, and a well rounded education in field medicine with a gym membership will survive a WROL situation a lot longer then some wannabe ninja with a $3000 AR15 and a Special Ops fetish.

Then, when someone does take the tentative steps into gun ownership, theyre bombarded with overwhelming BS about "getting off the X" and "tactical manipulations" . And then gun owning folk wonder why uninitiated people think we're nuts. I can barely comprehend this attitude, and the soccer moms of America will DEFINITELY not like the idea of folks in the woods playing Army with actual rifles. The latter point matters, because the Bambiist soccer moms' votes count equally as much as yours do on Election Day.
                                Rant over.
MILITARY? DID YOU SERVE? I AM REALLY INTERESTED..
There are four questions of value in life... What is sacred? Of what is the spirit made? What is worth living for, and what is worth dying for.
