Almost got shot today. . .

Was driving with a friend out to a well-known BLM spot to do some shooting. On the way in we noticed a silver VW Golf parked on a hill overlooking the dirt road we were on. To our surprise, they were shooting DOWN AT THE ROAD WE WERE ON. They saw us, but continued to shoot their ARs, kicking up large clouds of dust about 10 feet to the left of the road ahead.

Luckily, we were back about 100 yards from where the shots were hitting. But it was still too close IMHO. We finally had to honk our horn to get them to stop so we could pass.

Just so it's clear. Rule #4 is to always know your target, what's behind it, above it, below it, to the left of it and to the right of it. If we hadn't been looking way up to our left, we would have driven right into their "fire-zone."

Never shoot at a road, or towards a road.

I'm posting this here, in the hope that one of the shooters will read this and realize how unsafe they were being.

What morons. Some lack basic, common sense. It seems to be more prevalent now.

Yes, the sad part was that they kept shooting, even after they saw a vehicle moving into their line of fire.

Why are you driving into their line of fire?

Luckily, I spotted them and told the driver to STOP. If I hadn't been looking up to the high left, I would have missed them. If someone else was on that road, and perhaps had their stereo turned up too loud, and/or wasn't looking high and to the left, they would have driven right into it.

But the point is that their line of fire should not have included a public road.

Ever hear the motorcycle statement, "Loud pipes save lives"? Apparently, because automobile drivers can hear the cycle coming, they are looking for it and (hopefully) don't do stupid things like "no-look" lane changes.

Well, in this situation, that's what AK pistols are for.

Ah yes, the 'no look' lane change. Just love those moves. Riding in the Bay is the only way to go, until you have to deal with a moron on a cell phone who thinks 10 more feet in the left lane will get him/her to work faster.

oaklander, I went to look to see if they were still up there when I left today, but they were gone. Wanted to ask them if we could shoot towards them next time.

Isn't shooting over public roads and bodies of water against the law?

It should be common sense that it is really bad idea to shoot towards a road. I guess a road looks like a good backstop to some people This is all I know about when shooting near roads. Firearms must not be discharged within 150 yards of any developed area such as roads, trails, campgrounds, bodies of water, etc. Straight off the SB National Forest website. I don't know if it applies to BLM land.

It is illegal to shoot from a road, across a road, across a body of water, within 150 yards of a campground or other structure or occupied area, or if endangering any person or property.

... makes me wonder where these morons come from. Shooting at a road, that's just dumb.

Dangerous thinking. Loud pipes project backwards. I've had LOUD bikes sneak up on me in my Miata with the top down. Once they got next to me and as they passed me, the noise about rattled my teeth they're so loud. All loud pipes do is piss off your neighbors.
