Nothin' for nothin', Facebook actually strips the geocoding data from uploaded images so that scumbags can't do stalker nonsense with it.
That said, I keep any gun pics on my FB to a minimum, generally just pictures of the kids at the range or things of that nature where the guns aren't the main character. i.e. the picture isn't of a gun. The picture is of the boys having a safe, good time learning a skill, and the .22 happens to be in their hand.
I do make it a point to take any pictures from the non-serial number side of the weapon.
In general I don't encourage discussion of "whats in dads safe" by the kids or myself, either verbally or on social media. It isn't a secret; it just isn't anyone's business, so we exercise discretion.Comment

This. The amount of paranoia in this thread is laughable. While I'm too old for Facebook and the like, I don't see anything wrong with posting your weapons anywhere you like. If you're not up to no good, then you're fine.I wouldnt blatantly post pictures of all my weapons as a display, but I have no problems posting pictures of outings at the range etc.
Sometimes I feel like we are carrying on the stereotypical gun enthusiast image as a paranoid freak by hiding all evidence of one of our beloved hobbies.

What? It isn't about what we're doing, it's about what other people, who could be potential criminals, might aim to do if they find out you've got something as desireable as guns...

OP, you are asking a question about facebook which only interest the majority of people ~30 and under. This forum is about guns, and sticking with stereotypes, my bet is that the majority of people here are ~30 and over. So its no surprise that most of the answers will be from people with a certain "distrust" with facebook due to "fear of unknown" or "fear from uncertainty" and not fully understanding facebook and the culture shift into public media, web 2.0, blah blah blah.
However, I cant help but sit back and laugh at how ridiculous people are with their reason for not posting on facebook due to "theft of an expensive item". Seriously though, there are things that are worth more than glocks and AR's.
Personally, i have no problem posting pix of my guns, or car (sticker price ~$90k), or house (worth thousands of guns). If you are already a target, facebook or not, you will be a possible victim; typical crooks aint gonna have the resources to hack facebook's privacy only to scout out potential victims. The chance of a crook eyeing you at the range and following you home to target your guns is 1000x more likely than facebook being the root of a crime.HiComment

I don't mind with training/range pics as long as they look safe and professional, but I don't post my own "collection" due to OSPEC concern.
Consider this: most famed instructors have facebook or other social media pages, some actually even have professional photographers accompany them during their courses.Last edited by Lugiahua; 11-05-2012, 11:56 PM.Comment

If I go with friends who are social media they usually ask me if they can check us in and post/snap a few pics. I have no problem as the criminal still has to decide which one of us owns the guns.Want to Buy: Ruger PC9 Magazine Buttstock PouchComment

This is the ridiculousness that I'm talking about. I just don't see the logic.
"Hey look at that picture! That guy's got guns! What a perfect person to rob!"
"Hey look at that picture! That guy's got guns! I'm gonna figure out where he lives and rob him! I'll find his house based on the hills in the background, and the position of the sun hitting the side of the building, and the ground temperature when I look at it from this angle...."
C'mon man.... seriously??Originally posted by thud916I have to admit I like carrying anything new I buy around the house with me. Wife caught me taking a growler wearing body armor and holding a Spike Tactical.Comment

This. If someone has the ability to hack your facebook account and get all your info, they'll probably seek greener pastures or identity steal remotely without putting themselves in physical risk with a home invasion. I agree, guns are great, but pound for pound are not always the most expensive and luxurious item.OP, you are asking a question about facebook which only interest the majority of people ~30 and under. With that said, I would never post details such as how my guns are stored, where they are stored, serial numbers, and exactly how many guns I have total laying about. Post pictures of being at the range, being with friends, having a great time. Random people who see it aren't gonna be able to figure out who owns what unless they start asking questions for an inside job.Comment

yup. the people that think posting photos of guns is inviting crime are playing into the anti-gun agenda that an armed population is not a crime prevention measure
When in reality... you'd have to be a dumbass to find me on facebook and decide to rob me... I mean a straight up ****ing retarded ****faced dumbassyou don't rise to the occasion,
you just fall back on your level of training.Comment
