Posting your guns on facebook.

Assuming your facebook is not open to the public, just your circle of 300+ friends and your 2 or 3 close friends.

And assuming you even have facebook, is it a really bad idea to post pics of your guns on this site for your friends to see.

What could be the down side to doing this.

And do any of you guys n girls do it.

Nope. Don't post guns here, why would I put them on facebook.

What could happen? Someone figures out where you live and when you are going on vacation.

You get into it with someone and all your facebook posts and pics are now evidence. No right to privacy on FB.

Anybody who posts stuff like that & personal info/pics on social media is a fool. Why give your info to the Feds so easily.

Figure out your privacy settings first. No one except my "close friends" (which I handpicked) can see some of my pics.

And if you're one of those people whose entire profile and posts are "public", you're a fool.

Nope I wouldn't do it. I have friends who have posted pictures of them with their own guns and I always advise them to take them down. In this day and age we have so little privacy I see no reason to make it even less.

I wouldnt blatantly post pictures of all my weapons as a display, but I have no problems posting pictures of outings at the range etc.

Sometimes I feel like we are carrying on the stereotypical gun enthusiast image as a paranoid freak by hiding all evidence of one of our beloved hobbies.

I see folks in hunting pictures posing with their guns and trophies/kills. Why not. Unless you're doing some stupid gangster wannabe stuff.

Can't find the news story, though I remember some folks posted photos of lots of cash and their gun on one of those sites. Then the irony is, they got robbed. They had a gun and couldn't defend themselves? Posers.

I posted pics of my guns on facebook but only my friends can see it. GPS tags are not embedded in any of my pics and my home address/city has never been posted in my profile.

I don't post guns on Facebook, but I have no issue doing posting pictures here. If Uncle Sam wants your guns he'll have no trouble finding them with or without the internet.

As far as posting on FB is concerned its a bad idea from the standpoint of you risking problems with LE over a "concerned citizen" phoning you in as a threat to society with a "machine gun". A semi and full auto AR15 looks identical in a photo, and to a gun ignorant hoplophobe there's no distinction. You see an AR15 as a semi-auto rifle and think nothing of posting a range visit on your profile. Next thing you know a field agent from the local ATF office calls you with worrying talk about NFA violations . While the odds of permanent damage are low, I'd rather not get a 2AM visit by a SWAT unit over an overblown "tip" phoned in by some gun squeamish toad that happened to see a post of my last range visit.

Facebook is a farce. No one has 300 friends. FB is just a lame way for people to create the person they want people to see them as.

The whole thing is a pandoras box that is nothing but problems.

What's the upside?

Facebook has shown time and again that privacy and users having easy control of their accounts are secondary to advertising revenue and data collection. Your info and pictures being available to anyone are an unadvertised policy change away.
