    "Can I borrow your..."

So my 21 year old cousin decides to go shooting with his friends (probably with some ladies so he wants to impress), and wants to "borrow" a "couple" of my firearms to go out to the range. And then have the balls to ask if i had ammo for them. Are f*ing kidding me? He's not a regular shooter, and I've never seen him shoot before.

I've never had anyone borrow them before. And wtf, why was i not invited? I'm older, but not that old... (32, I look younger than that) Anyway, I've allowed others to try out my firearms while I am at the range, but never without my physical supervision. Any of you let others "borrow" your firearms without your physical supervision?

Nope, tell him tough luck and think harder before asking stupid questions. I've never loaned my guns before, never will.

Personally I don't like people using my firearms without me there. What if it was not returned in the same condition when you lent it out. The firearm may jam and your friend may not know how to fix it. Even worse I remember reading a thread were someone lent a gun to his brother and the firearm was in the vehicle. Vehicle was broken into and firearm was stolen. Thankfully for this person the firearm was recovered. Worse case scenario if the gun was used in a crime and hurt somebody. You might be liable for the damages.

Nope and I don't even like showing them off to people. When people come over and firearms come up, they always wanna see em.

I don't let anyone borrow my firearms or my car. Had a bad experience when I loaned my professional camera equipment to a friend about 25 years ago. Best not to muddy up a friendship when something goes wrong.

I do encourage my friends to try them out when we're at the range together though.

If he is not a regular shooter, then loaning him a gun should be out of the question. Like loaning someone your car who has rarely driven one, just not smart.

There is a short list of people who I wouldn't have reservation loaning a gun to, but random cousin out of the blue isn't one of them.

Nope, But you (and your friends) can come the next time I go to the range. You bring the bullets and Ill bring the firearms. Seems fair.

I would never let anyone borrow my guns. I would have to be there. I had my buddy cousin, yes his cousin ask to borrow some guns i was like uh no, and he was mad and said i am messed up for not letting him borrow my guns.

Most of my guns I will let my 32 year old son use with out me there, but there are 3 that no one shoots with out me there. My AR, 1911 and an old 30-30 (the last two were given to me by my dad).

I have a couple of people I would loan my guns to. No problem for me at all.

But not in the case you describe.

Not just no, but HELL no.

And if he asks to borrow without inviting you along, chances are he's not "going to the range" IYKWIM.
