OK, to save yourself a lot of hassle on fixing the tile portion of the hole... especially when it is unlikely you will match that tile... even if you plan to remodel later and can't do a full strip of all of that tile for a full remodel now...

You could get several decorative tiles, or if in the middle of the wall, a 12"X12" ceramic tile some type of floral design, and epoxy/caulk it or them in place. It makes it a simple job, beats ugly non-matching tiles, and may actually improve the aesthetics rather than just a bunch of bland earth-tone tiles (no offense).

There is a true story about famed gun-safety/combat firearm technique/journalist Jeff Cooper showing off a new single-action revolver to a fellow reporter, and in the process, thinking the gun was unloaded, he aimed it in a "safe direction" at a gas-meter on a neighbor's house across the street, and blew a hole through the damned thing. (It did not blow up but he it hit exactly at the point he was aiming). Later, the meter was obtained, chromed (or gold-plated, can't remember which) and presented to Mr. Cooper at some kind of an awards/roast dinner. But this was many years after he had already been writing articles and training many, many people on gun safety.

I learned from his story just as equally that I have now learned from yours. Thanks.

And HE used to share that story, so don't feel bad. I always check the chamber any time a gun gets in my hands, even if I hand it off to someone, and they hand it back to me, and it never left my sight - every time it goes into my hand, I check the chamber, even when removing them from my OWN safe, fully knowing I was the ONLY person to have handled it last time and put it in the safe myself, whereby even with no other possibility someone else could have handled it - if it hits my hands after being out of my hands, I check the chamber. Having done that for the past 21 years, it's now a habit; it's the first thing I do. Dealer hands me a gun, even when I see he just checked it? I check it - I don't trust other people's eyes or ability with handguns.

I DO have a story where this paid off; I bought a BJT Derringer in .357Mag at a local gun store along with a few other guns, handled it in the store at purchase (empty chamber), and on my pick up, salesman #1 hands me the gun, action opened (now if you know these guns, you can't open them and not see a round in it - it's greatly obvious the way they flip open) we do the final 4473/DROS signatures, I checked the chamber, close the empty gun, put it away in it's zipper-case rug and then proceeded to look at another gun in the counter.

Meanwhile, salesman #1 dealing with me, puts the gun (already in its zipper-case rug) back on the back rack and down behind the 90 degree counter, at the other end of the "L" shape, along with a couple of other guns I was buying at the same time, as the store was crowded, so none would "walk off" with it. He and I are looking at a gun from the counter, and meanwhile, dumb-dork salesman #2, out of view, is checking out the "neat derringer" I just bought, unbeknownst to me or salesman #1; we don't even see him doing it as we are at the opposite end of the 90 degree counter.

Time comes for me to leave the store; salesman #1, hands me my stack of guns, which appear to be just as he/we left them, in their boxes, cases, and rugs, and I walk out happy.

I get home. Take the guns out of their cases/boxes/rugs to clean and clear them before putting them into the safe. First thing I do is crack them open to check the chambers - lo and behold, in the BJT derringer, in one chamber, there resides a LIVE blue-nosed Magtech safety cartridge in .38 Special!!

The dumb-dork salesman #2 had loaded it "to see if .38 special would chamber in it" as he would later admit (when I called the store to rip them one). He got distracted with his job and phone call, laid it down, stepped away, then as things got busy, he came back to it, closed the gun up, and put the gun back in its rug, completely forgetting he loaded it and never took the round back out. He was an Vietnam Vet too, a Marine, and a self proclaimed "professional" collector/shooter.

(By the way, over the years, I have heard of this happening many live gun auctions too, where old guns may have been missed in checking them completely by the staff, and a lice round is found - seems to happen the most on older single actions where the chambers are not as visible unless the cylinder is fully rotated.)

Always check the chamber any time a gun gets in your hands for any time there was ether between you and the gun. Rinse. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. - If there was a "gun safety" smilie, I would put it here.

Neo - thanks for sharing your story, it is a great reminder to never forget the safety rules. Glad you're otherwise ok, and tell us how it goes with the wife.

You could also say an icicle fell from the ceiling and hit the wall, breaking the tile....

Your wife will just be happy to know that in an unrelated incident, having nothing to do with that broken tile, you protected her from Black Bart.

Or... you could say that you were taking a shower, slipped, fell and hit your head on the tile, breaking it... you now have a serious headache.. which may actually get you a neck-massage and pampering, instead of a beating.

          .

And in a completely unrelated circumstance I was going to put a peep hole in the door in case we ever have an intruder, but I was using this LONG drill bit and accidentally went through the wall as well.

Sorry about the off center, I left my tape at work.
Alot isn't a word and allot isn't the word you think it is.

I'd really like a Colt 1903 frame, bad finish okay!
I'm also looking for a good deal on a 1911 frame or two for budget/spare parts builds.

Reminds me of the guy who had a ND from his trailer and killed a guy driving down the road.

You, and everybody else, are lucky no one was killed.

You should also be glad you don't live in a populated urban area. You'd be facing negligent discharge and a bunch of other hassle and charges.

Should serve as a warning for everyone. Always verify that a gun is unloaded every time you pick it up. Does not matter if you are the only one who touches it. Just do it. Every single time.

                  Glad no one was hurt.

I would have say that there was a one armed man armed with a minigun in the house, thats because the bullet didnt come back and kill me. Cause when you tell the wife the truth , she will says its ok (thinks otherwise) and from that day on she will NEVER LET YOU FORGET IT. Good luck

I cannot say that something similar has never hapened to me. There are 2 kinds of people in this world- those who HAVE learned firearm safety, and thise who WILL!
I put a pill though the garage door into my brother's car's AC and radiator. My buddy shot his TV. My other buddy blew up a potted plant on TOP of the TV. My other buddy (US Marine, life) put a 40 gold dot through his palm. My other buddy put one into the bricks on the fireplace. My grandfather shot into the kitchen cupboard, missing grandma by inches- she actaully had burns on her face and permanent hearing damage. My freind's wife shot through the fornt door at him when he came home from work early... these are ALL tru stories... S*** happens- and it happens to those who handle guns often. Among the guys above, 1 is a front sight 1st family distinguished graduate. 1 was CHP, 1 is USMC. 1 is retired army. 1 is me. Oh yeah- my brother shot himself in the foot with bb gun, my other brother shot me in foot with a C02 pellet revolver (about a year before I ventilated his car's AC- so it was kinda like he deserved it.)
Point is- BE CAREFUL. Then check yor gun. Then check it again. Then you might think about getting a second opinion before you pull the trigger.

Ya know- if all that happened on the same night- how fun would that party be. Sounds like a shootout on HBO.
