[reposted from arcom for those that don't go there]
So I get to work today and, aside from being sick, I have NO work. I had already machined the 7' screw my boss had set aside for me earlier this week and two other jobs that were supposed to be coming in were MIA with no ETA. I went home earlier.
I hadn't been home alone for a while so after a short relaxation period I decided to tinker with some of my toys. First up was my AK. Everything was nice and fine with it and after taking some time to examine the fire control group, bolt and carrier, etc to get some inspiration for a near future project I put it down and picked up the AR for some more advanced inspiration. I like to take a quick run through of the operation of a gun before taking it apart because I feel it gives me a better understanding of what it's physical shortcomings or advantages are before looking into it's mechanical shortcomings or advantages. So I picked it up and jerked the charging handle and let it fly home, I then rolled it in my hand so it was pointed it away from myself and so I could inspect the ejection port and then dropped the hammer.
A half moment later I would remember I had loaded the magazine a short while before when a possible threat was outside my house.
Now this may be weird but I could actually HEAR the hammer drop on the firing pin. After that was the ringing of deafness followed by the force of the concussion and lastly the actual sound registered in my mind with that deep bass of a thud followed by that sharp shrill CLINK! The actual flash from the muzzle and then the ejection port startled me a bit, but the concussion was what threw me off the most. I was startled to the point that I jumped back/sideways and landed on a piece of my computer and cut my big toe up. It was at this point that I realized that one was NOT ringing...."holy **** I ruptured the drum" was all I could think. After a brief moment and swabbing my ears with my finger a couple times to ensure no blood was coming out I decided to check out the damage. My hearing had returned in o ne ear and the other was still fuzzy (still is, but getting much better). Bellow you can see what I walked into:
Entry hole. Picture shows my room door, off it's hinge - remodeling our newly wed home) with what looks like a peep hole slightly off center. Yes, that is a black powder rifle in the corner. It was my uncle's who passed away (Mush's dad) and it doesn't fit in my safe.

Next you see the second entry hole in the plaster wall. The entry hole has no doubled in size.

Here is the same hole but from a straight on, more close approach - note the door and metal jacket flakes plastered along the wall. Most are the wood from the thin door.

Opposite my room wall was our un-used bathroom. It is in a slight bit of aray because of remodeling but the pictures speak for themselves.

Here you can see that while the inner wall of the bathroom/shower had good damage done to it, there is NO damage on the opposite wall. Sorry it's dark, but it's hard to get a good picture with the window lighting. Also note that the small black dot on the opposite wall is NOT a third entry hole but is a sleeve to the stud for a shower door.

And lastly the culprit and it's mama.

Be safe kids, especially if you're a ****ing moron like me.
I'm just glad the Mrs wasn't home. I still have no idea what I'll tell her...
