Well,, that or just sick of some of the bone heads that go to the range. I've patterned the decent times pretty well to avoid the mess.

    .
I'm spoiled by SLOSA too. Well run, great RO's, OLL friendly and fun steel at various ranges in addition to paper targets. G/F and I go early and avoid the "Afternoon problem folks". Soiled to have USFS land equal distant available too. We get the best of both worlds. Spoiled is great !

Can't wait till my new toy is out of Jail and go to SLOSA to sight in. Then bang on the steel at 380 n 400 yards the rest of the morning.

I'm about 15min from that same range & hours away from any BLM areas. Honestly, Iron Sights is the best indoor range I've been to, from OC, San Diego & The Dallas area.

I do prefer BLM though but I have to plan that way in advance.

This is what I did. Not only no RO's, but most times I go to the range, I am the only one there........

Only been to 2 ranges in my entire life, the gun room in elk creek (absolutely worst experience I EVER had shooting), and sac valley shooting center, that place is great. The ROs are great, good range, clean, fun, friendly (as long as you get off the public range). But now, I can step out my front door and could shoot to 2k yards if I desired. So ya, must suck to be you guys in town

They seem to be hard to find. I have heard rumors of one near me, but never found it, driving around.

BLM baby. I went to Angeles one time. After sitting at concrete bench shooting at paper for an hour, I said screw it and never went back.
I grew up plinking in the desert and even shooting my pellet gun in my suburban Redondo Beach backyard. Yes, it was as illegal then as it is now, but thats one benefit of property ownership and high fences...

I shot my first high power rifles and pistols in the Military, and of course we had range monitors, the GM3, but we still shot offhand, on the move and from different positions. We used to turn off the lights at the end of our indoor quals and burn up all the extra ammo (if you dont use it, you lose it...) making giant fireballs in the dark. Running the M16's on three round burst and rapid firing the 870 SBS's...

I live deep in LA city and even I found a few nice public spots. Its an hour drive, but so is Angeles. I want to practice my gun fighting skills. For rifles, that means offhand, nonstatic shooting. Also, drawing from concealment with pistols.

And I am pretty sure I can be trusted to touch my gun during a ceasefire...

I found some of those private ranges and clubs in Victorville and Barstow.

But then I just went to BLM like 25 mins drive. It was great, my first time at BLM and didn't expect so much fun! The freedom, I did not see a single person out and did not hear another gun going off except for my Mosin! haha.

Going there again on June 7th or 8th, anyone else wants to come along let me know i know a great spot.

Some ranges have too many rules and some of the people that run them have an attitude that you should be happy to smell their farts 'cause they're allowing you to set foot in their range.

Then what did you do? Did you get the range officer to boot them out? I don't think anyone would have taken that very lightly. Kinda the same way people don't let strangers just borrow their car without permission.

For random plinking and burning up ammo...BLM land is fine...

But for any kind of actual practice involving steel plates, knockdown targets and competition, how do you do that again?

I shoot Sporting Clays, Skeet, Bianchi, Steel Challenge, Cowboy Action shooting, tactical rifle. All of these involve PEOPLE competing and you using your skill sets.

Want to be the Unibomber wannabe? Fine, skulk through the woods and pretend you're Rambo firing off your SKS and attacking tree stumps with your bayonet. Just kidding of course but you may want to actually practice using something other then paper targets or tin cans.

Five Dogs Range is a private range here, and each activity/club area is dedicated to a different shooting discipline. You can still plink if you want to. But you can interact with others and try new skills, hone old ones, or just socialize.

I have my own steel plates, rest, target stands and even a 6ft plywood cover "station" I built with staggered holes cut for standing, kneeling and prone. I take classes when I want to learn and practice on my own terms. I dont need a baby sitter.

An empty paint can is similar to the size of a human head. If I can hit one unsupported offhand (as opposed to sitting down and using a sand bag) at a hundred yards from "cover", I feel pretty confident that I can duplicate the same shot in real life. I try and practice for combat accuracy.

I am member of private range too, but BLM is right next door and sometimes its just easier. Especially if you go with a lot of people. Another Calgunner and I went up there with a group of ten+ people one time, and there was plenty of room for all of us.

Also GSA is auctioning of the Uni-Bomber's personal effects. I wonder if they have his copy of Al Gore's book on global warm er I mean "climate change"?

I go to the Barstow desert

I live about 15 mins away =D( Victorville)

I hate going to ranges simply because you're not free. In other words, you have to wait to change your target or when you're shooting and all of sudden you have to stop shooting. I've been yelled at because they thought I had an Auto AR15 ( Wtf?!?) They called the Sheriff over and they checked my AR.

If I could shoot BLM land all the time I would. I have a great spot about 45min away that I try to hit up at least once a month. Ive built many steel swinger targets and its nice to hear the PING when you hit them. I live close to P2k so thats my only option when I dont have the time to drive up to BLM land. P2k is nice but it gets crowded. People there seem to mind there own buisness and its nice to have a hundred yard indoor range to sight in
