Anyone else that can't stand shooting ranges?

It seems like most people here go to a shooting range instead of going to national forest or BLM land to shoot. I've been to a range probably only 3 times since I've started shooting and I honestly can't stand it. I hate being able to only shoot paper at most places and I hate having to wait to go change targets. I just generally dislike the atmosphere.

I'd rather take the $10-20 it cost at a range and put it in my tank to drive an extra 45 minutes to NF forest land where I can find a spot away from other people and do my own thing. Anyone else here dislike ranges?

For me, it is a means to an end. I either need the practice or just want to have some fun. I live 15 minutes away from an indoor range, so it is more about convenience then anything else. I just have to put up with other shooters who were trained by Hollywood.

        agreed

Although Lately I have been going to sac valley and they're nice it's a very long drive for a range. I'd also rather be on my own doing my own thing. I just don't know anywhere specific to go from North Highlands /shrug.

Get a private range with some friends. Problem solved.

            This.

Or join a private range/club that screens its members and has limited membership. You won't find these advertised, but they exist.

              SPOILED am I:

Are you suggesting that an empty range at your disposal is not to your liking? Or, perhaps, are you like a lot of us and anti-social to some degree???

Well,, that or just sick of some of the bone heads that go to the range. I've patterned the decent times pretty well to avoid the mess.

That's what I did. No range master and you are shooting with people you know assuming someone else is there.

So, you prefer shooting directly at them?

Never done the range thing either . . .

I would prefer informal shooting on private or BLM land but that's not easily available to everyone. I use public ranges out of necessity, not preference.

Necessity. Not all of us can be so spoiled as to live $10 in gas (at 25 MPG) to public access land.

Weirdos bother me 5% of the time I get bothered, which is infrequent. The other 95% it's the crowding. I can't stand crowded ranges.

Meh, my time is precious. I like being able to go to the range and get back home within a 1.5 hrs. Just go sunday morning, nobody is there on a sunday morning.
