Rifle mounted lights, why?

Turn your rifle into a club and beat YOURSELF to death if you're that bad of a shooter. So everybody is claiming the light is for home defense. That's fine. But most of the tacticool flashlight builds I see are fixed mag builds built more for looks than practicality. What exactly do you plan on doing when you fire the last round out of your fixed magazine and the bad guy is still coming at you?Comment

Not sure how you're so worked up over a light on an AR.... Maybe some people shoot at night. Maybe some just want a light there. Maybe some want to be prepared. Who gives a hoot. Multiple sights, grips etc I can understand, but not simply a light.Comment

LOL...
Pretty much. If one cannot hit a human sized target at close range within ten rounds (with any accuracy at least), that person is better off with a baseball bat or golf club than a firearm for home defense...
But that's just my opinion...Last edited by digitalelf; 03-21-2011, 12:01 AM."Eating and sleeping are the only activities that should be allowed

Yeah, who would ever need more than 10 rounds for self defense? I mean, you wouldn't ever have multiple perps or anything, right?
There was pretty recently a study that was posted in the 2A forum about the number of cases where >10 rounds were fired in self defense. and this kind of thinking is what got us the neutered 10 round capacity law passed in CA.
who knows how many rounds one would need to fire in a home invasion situation. until someone who has experienced one and used their gun can post up all posts about this issue are all speculation and not reliable info.Originally posted by leelawBecause -ohmigosh- they can add their opinions, too?Originally posted by SoCalSig1911Preppers canceled my order this afternoon because I called them a disgrace... You ever heard of multiple attackers? How about multiple hits/failure to stop? There are documented cases of people being shot several times- >10 shots- and not being stopped (the only cases I have handy are with handguns, but there's also cases with rifles). How about jams/stoppages? Several methods for clearing stoppages require the removal of the magazine. Unreliable ammunition could be another variable; if you get 2, 3, or more misfires, then it might be wise to change mags if you don't have a backup to transition to. There's a whole myriad of reasons why your reasoning is just plain wrong. If the threat isn't stopped after firing 10 rounds, that does not necessarily mean that you're a crappy shooter who couldn't fire all 10 rounds with any accuracy at the attacker to stop him. There are many variables that are beyond your control, even your accuracy in a situation like that.Last edited by rugershooter; 03-21-2011, 1:21 AM.Comment

If you need more than 10 rifle rounds for home defense, you have other issues to worry about. So everybody is claiming the light is for home defense. That's fine. That's why my AR is my backup HD weapon.

Let's take this one a step further....the main electric panel at my house is on the side at the front of my house. You don't need to even go into my back yard to throw the main breaker and totally black out my house.I don't know about your home, but the light switches in my living room are next to the front door, which happens to be on the opposite side of where the hall for the bedrooms are. While I could turn the hall light on, that doesn't necessarily light up the entire living room(hence the living room having it's own lighting).R.I.P. Chris Kyle. 2/2/13Comment

Wow...
Guess I forgot to don my flame-retardant suit...
First of all, I did say that it was just my opinion. Second, there are indeed other variables to be sure. But as the poster directly below yours pointed out, if you need more than ten rounds, then you have other things to worry about (weapon jamming, multiple targets, etc.)..."Eating and sleeping are the only activities that should be allowed

I agree. But your post seems to state that if 10 rounds don't resolve the situation that it's due to inaccuracy on the part of the shooter. That's not necessarily the case, and doesn't driectly relate to mag capacity.Wow...
