I live on my own in a one bedroom apartment. I have a gf but she sure doesn't have a key. None of my friend would break my door down. No one has a key but me or my landlord. Now if this person breaks into my front door, starts going through my living room, then comes to my bedroom... uhmm yeah I'll prob shoot first ask questions later.

Lol. So so your saying, if someone broke into hour house where you knew it was a robber. You call 911 (which is what I would do first, phone is next to my bed) but hear him come to the bedroom and bust open the door. What you going to do talk to him? Offer him a cup of coffee? Nightcap?Comment

Lol I'm am not paranoid guy. Hell i dont even keep the mag in it, nor any of my firearms. There is a difference from a sound, then to hearing your door being broken into. Lol your just trying to make some argument out of nothing. No I wouldn't just shoot anyone ghat walks in. I've owned firearms since I was 18. And from 18 till about 24 (27 now) I had my share of the random 3am drunk friends needing to sleep on my couch. Lol I was never like "OH My GOD WHERE'S MY GUN" lol.Comment

What about a safety? Unless you're running something like a Glock or revolver, you're probably going to worry about a safety.
The safety on your handgun, shotgun or carbine should stay engaged until you see someone worth pointing the gun at. Only then should the safety come off, the sights come up and your finger go on the trigger.
Surprise is at least as useful in defense. And not every intruder is going to be coming after you. A lot of them will beat feet if they realize you're there.I see plent of applications if your being the assaulter (like cops, military). When your suprising someone it is a great tool. But if someone is breaking into your house, your kinda now on the defense. He will always be alert and even trying to find you. Now let's say you do what you say (hide in the corner) and flash that light right when he comes in. Yes you will have first shots and the advantage. However all he needs to do is pull the trigger a few times in the direction the light was spotted.
And you really need to experience one of these lights first hand. There's no returning fire accurately in the direction of the light. It's a head-turner.
Night sights are not enough to make a positive identification of your target. Nobody else has keys to your place? It might be a drunk neighbor who got the wrong door or something, too. Just because someone is in my house doesn't mean they're getting shot. It really raises their risk of exposure to lead, but it doesn't mean it's 100% going to happen.
That's pretty close to my plan (but I'll be holding the top of a staircase), but there is still room for a light. A friend of mine has a key, and I want to make sure I didn't miss his phone calls telling me he has some weird emergency or something. It could also be the police hitting the wrong house (good lord, I don't want to smoke a couple of cops - then you die) or something equally stupid but fairly innocent. If something happens I have a 2 foot separation from wall to bed I'll just lay in and wait for him to come in my room. If he does I dont need no light, and he def won't see me or getting the first shots off either. Like I said for military, police scenarios absolutely. But IDE rather be silent, no way noticeable, and ready for him.
The bottom line is, you're responsible for EVERY round that leaves the tube. One of the rules of safe firearm use is to know your target.
I'm telling you that you can use this 100% in a sneaky way without giving up any advantage.
You need to experience the effects first-hand. You need someone to run you through some low-light instruction. There is a lot more to using these lights than you think.sigpicNRA MemberOriginally posted by Deadbolt"We're here to take your land for your safety"

guess it comes down to the enviroment you live in. Based off your post you live in a two story home. And probably a bigger place than where I live. If I had some huge master bedroom I can see how it could be useful. But for me, my place is like 950 sq ft. Someone enters my bedroom it would prob be hard to miss my room is only like 10x12 or so. So for me; I just wouldn't use it. As far as the safety, I have an XD, if I'm holding it safety is off. And no no one else has keys to my place but my landlord, and he would never bust down my door. I have had friends and gfs randomly show up the middle of the night; but none of them busted open my door.
But that being sad, not like I'm really againt them. I have 3 lights and a mount for my fenix on my AR. But then again Ide never use my AR in an apartment lol.Last edited by pacifico23; 03-24-2011, 12:06 PM.Comment

Why turn the lights on everything including yourself? That would level the playing field. Having the advantage of directing the light only where you point it is huge. Also to the guy who started this thread, if your so concerned on mall ninja stuff and unnecessary add ons why not just stick with a revolver or m1. Don't be a hater...I hate you....

And then not actually using the tools to work ont he car but stands there staring and touching the tools.
My guns get used. its simple as that. While they may not be on anyones top 10 lists I use them. if they get a scratch or wear marks ah well I bought them to shoot them not to stare at them. I do not buy my guns with the collector piece in mind. To me they are tools nothing more. i don't abuse/mistreat them but i don't throw them on a pedestal and stare at them either
If someone wants a tactical looking rifle and they are willing to pay the money for it that's cool. For all I know they are modeling a AR to be like a rifle they possibly used when in combat so the familiarity and muscle memory will make them faster.
or they simply have a bunch of money burning a hole in their pocket and want their gun to look like a gun in a movie or they feel like playing super SEAL that day.
I just kind of shrug and go about my business.Comment

How about dealer opening a new deck of card before each card game.. they look serious to me
I seen motorcycle rider putting second hand race take off tires on their bike just to look cool. Warn gear doen't mean more practice or a more experianced shooter.
I believe in taking care of the equipment and they will take care of you.

Ever heard if the ultimate bullet button tool? I can change my mag in about a second. So everybody is claiming the light is for home defense. That's fine. But most of the tacticool flashlight builds I see are fixed mag builds built more for looks than practicality. What exactly do you plan on doing when you fire the last round out of your fixed magazine and the bad guy is still coming at you?
