Maybe the mechanic's tools got stolen the day before and the insurance company coughed up a check and he was able to get a new set.

Do I need to buy pre-worn rifles now to keep you satisfied? Like those pre-tattered and faded jeans?
Go tie your rifle to your bumper and drag it around the block a bit.. maybe he will approve then. lol

I have a few thousand through my newest AR and except for some brass marks on the deflector it looks great.. I guess I need to be clumsy and drop it more.

Just make sure that you aren't going to get a shadow with that setup. Best place for a light is either at 3 or 9 o'clock and either farther forward or kicked out a bit. With a tight 6 o'clock mount like that you can get a huge shadow over the target's face, which kind of makes the light more or less useless.

I run a pistol light on the right side of my front sight base (there are mounts that attach to the a-frame). No shadows.

55 grain 5.56 ammo is doing 3,000+ feet per second out of even a 16 inch barrel. .223 loads will be moving a little slower. .45 ACP is 230 grains doing around 900. At the higher velocities, the bullet will break apart a lot easier on impact with anything solid. The heavier and slower .45 won't upset much beyond expanding and tends to just keep going in whatever direction you pointed it.

Unfortunately, fragmenting handgun ammo has been shown time and again not to work as advertised. It goes through walls just like FMJ, but won't penetrate a person (on the near side of the wall, anyway) enough for a reliable stop.

With 5.56, even FMJ winds up fragmenting, with M193 being one of the better ones out there IMO. I've seen 5.56 upset and turned sideways by as little as a sheet of cardboard (there was another sheet behind the first one about 6 inches back, you could see keyholes in the second sheet).

Yes, 5.56 will go through a wall. Yes, it'll go through several. But it loses energy much faster going through them than a handgun or shotgun round will.

What you use and the angles you plan on firing at should all be pre-planned. I know exactly where I'll be taking shots and I know which angles I'll be avoiding right now because I know which angles are least likely to end in a bullet exiting my home. The best one is shooting down the stairs. House is built on a concrete pad, so shooting into the first level floor is shooting into concrete. 5.56 is just going to shatter and shower my living room walls with little pieces of bullet if I miss. Bonus: If they're coming from the back of the house (I think it's more likely), the angle of the shot most likely adds my fireplace to the list of things that are going to catch anything that makes it through or past whoever I'm ventilating.

I've got back-up shots planned, but I won't go into all that.

Pre-plan, you're less likely to accidentally shoot someone.

And the lights in your house don't work because?

Also, there are few statistics about break-ins/home invasions and I think it would be difficult to prove they happen majorily at night. I don't believe there is any clear pattern, however to me a daylight break in makes more sense because the homeowner is usually not home and at work. I suppose if the intentions are violent it is more likely to happen at night since the homeowners will likely be home, but I'd imagine most break ins aren't about violence but about theft. My only close-to personal experience with home breaks ins are two houses a few doors down frome me who were both burglurized when the sun was up.

I don't know about your home, but the light switches in my living room are next to the front door, which happens to be on the opposite side of where the hall for the bedrooms are. While I could turn the hall light on, that doesn't necessarily light up the entire living room(hence the living room having it's own lighting).

I feel like my flashlight is more menacing with a rifle mounted to it.

I do that all the time.

Get tired of jury-rigging something that gets the job done and finally buy the proper tool.

Or... old tools are worn, find something that looks like it'll be more efficient....

I probably spend $2500/year on tools.

Turning on the lights illuminates the bad guy and you. Plus you have to turn your attention to turning the lights on.

Meanwhile, I can hide behind the light on my carbine. Like someone else said, this is why the police light the back of your car up at night with lights on their car. They're hiding behind a wall of light.

For the same reason I bought a snake cam. So I can clear my house several times a day like in Ghost Recon.
