Basically there are dirt bags in every industry. UPS is no different. I can tell you that after having worked for Big Brown for almost 10 years that you guys really should go on a tour to see what happens in a hub. I no longer work for the company but I can assure you that I will continue to use them as my primary carrier and have no reservations in doing so...besides, nothing lost or stolen yet (fingers crossed).

This thread is sort of nuts. My old boss and his wife were crooks stole what they could from a giant warehouse and sold it all for what they could while cooking the books. The man was the site manager and oversaw everything, the wife was the warehouse manager in charge of all the electronic equipment coming in and out. They were both fired once everyone saw the light and realized what was going on. Now she is my mail lady. Not the best thought.

I have friends that work at UPS and they tell me there's always stuff that come out of boxes and since the original packaging is gone, the stuff goes to UPS's corporate junk yard where they are sold off to wholesalers. There is a lot of ammo falling out of packages that cannot be traced to the shipper or the consignee so off they go to the local police department for disposal. If a customer calls in inquiring about a shipment and can provide specific details, then there might be a chance that they will recover the goods.

I have lost a few boxes of ammo from shipments handled by UPS but never a lot at one time. It's always one per shipment.

This is true, I used to work at a UPS hub that was at an airport. Heavy objects like ammo would split open all the time. And loaders are in such a rush to load trucks and airplane containers that items aren't always handled so well.

Regarding stealing, it would be very hard for someone at the hub to steal ammo. The one I worked at had workers go through a metal detector as they entered and exited the hub. Most likely lost ammo is due to the boxes ripping open, I remember finding loose ammo on package belts on occasion.
