    Carrying concealed illegally question

I'm working on an Administration of Justice Degree so most times my instructors are ex-cops etc.... I have one this semester that is a strong believer in gun rights which is totally cool and without saying it straight out, I know he carries into the class room (which I'm cool with). On the first night we were discussing many things and somehow the subject comes up about us females who have to walk to the parking structure etc. after class in the dark. He asks if any of us carry anything for protection, specifically a gun. Of course we all say no because it's illegal and he says only if you get caught but fails to mention that if you do get caught, you will lose your gun rights for 10 years.

My question is would you do it anyway? I mean, I want to but then again do I want to take the risk.

It's not worth it, but you don't lose your gun rights for 10 years either. Look up PC 12025 (concealed) and PC 12030 (loaded firearm in a public place). You lose your gun rights until your probation is up.

If you feel you must carry something for self-defense you can try for a CCW if you live in a shall-issue county, or look into the various self-defense sprays/foams, tasers, stun guns and the like. Self-defense classes wouldn't be a bad idea and also awareness of surroundings and what not.

    Don't risk carrying illegally though.

Thanks for the correct information about loss of rights. I personally don't fear for my safety really as I am always watching to see what's going on around me and I have been in MMA for a while...think it's just that he put that bug in my ear...."why can't I carry to protect myself, what's the point of having guns if I can't"

Guess I could do the pepper spray but I know me...I will never buy it.

Oh and live in California...NO ccw for me

But is on your record? Correct or no? Maybe not a good deal if you want to get into the LE field.

This may or may not be true, depends on where you are arrested, if you are unloaded concealed then what's the point?

Getting caught for 12025 and 12030 violations, both of which are misdemeanors mean arrested. Taken to booking and all that good stuff. DA will charge. If you're lucky you can plea for one of the charges and they drop the other. Get 2-3 years of court probation, some community service and of course you can kiss your gun goodbye.

Now I have heard in rural areas things can be a little more lax, but if you live anywhere in the big city counties there will be no slap on the wrist. And yes, you will have the conviction on your record, even if you get it expunged later it will come up when you apply for CCW and I believe you won't be able to get one for 10 years I want to say?

With all the things in the works in this state for CCW and other things, it's really not worth it to break the law at this point.
