I used to shop at Turner's in Reseda all the time. But that was about 10-15 years ago when they had good people there. Stopped going after the good ones were replaced by so-so employees. But after hearing about the new owners, I figure it was time to check them out again. That was back in April of this year, right after I received my tax refund.
HOLY CRAP! That was the worst retail experience I had ever experienced in my adult life!
It was a Thursday afternoon, around 4 pm which is several hours before closing. The cashier warmly greeted me when I walked in which I mistakenly took for a good omen. There were 3 white salesmen working the firearms counter. One was helping a customer with handguns, another was on the phone with a customer and the last one was stocking merchandise. They all saw me but didn't say anything. I was the only other customer at this time. I stood there, patiently waiting for any of them to finish what they were doing and help me. I waited and waited. During my wait, another customer came in and stood next to me. We nodded to each other and waited. The first one finished up the sale then walked to the back without saying anything. The second one on the phone finished his call and hopped on the computer and didn't say anything. The last one who was stocking kept on stocking.
Normally this could be understandable except a third customer walked in and suddenly all 3 salesmen rushed over to the newcomer and asked if he'd like to check out the new guns that came in.
WTF? I was pissed that this happened and so was the other guy who was standing there with me. We both turned and began to walk out. The cashier noticed us leaving without buying asked if we found what we needed and I replied,
"No, those 3 idiots ignored me. I was going to buy a few long guns but oh well."
The other fellow also said he wanted to by a handgun but not anymore. The cashier tried to stop us and asked us to wait our turn. That's when I decided to explain in detail how I did wait but her coworkers opted to serve the fat white guy instead of the 2 clean cut Asian guys who were patiently waiting to be served. The cashier asked if I'd like to speak to the manager which I said sure. She then informed me that he was out of the store for lunch and will be back soon. I laughed, said good bye and left.
I have to admit, despite having 3 idiot salesmen who lost out on a $1k+ sale, that cashier was pretty sharp. Too bad for her I knew about retail tricks to keep customers in the store.
When I got home, I emailed corporate one very long and detailed complaint and how they lost out on my business. I even tallied up what I had planned to purchase then and in the future since I also reload and fish.
Almost 3 months later, nothing. Oh well, I wasn't holding my breath. Their loss, Bass Pro Shop/Fort Courage/Walker '47/T&A Armory/Powder Valley/Dillon Precision's gain.
