The cheep aftermarket m1carbine clones were junk when new. Not possable to convert to m2.
Most likley just dumped as a jamed up (again) junk gun.

    Intersting find non the less.
Put in bucket of oil. Save for the talk, not worth rebuilding, even if you can find the parts.

BINGO! I don't remember seeing two oprod springs on the old commercial clone that I sold in the 80s.

How long has he lived in Concord? Patty Hearst and her Symbionese Liberation Army friends were creatures of the East Bay in the 70s. Maybe one of those guys buried a full-auto modified M-1 carbine clone in the back yard?

        Uh, not.

In addition, I would not recommend to the OP to do anymore "general" digging to see what else can be found.

I don't get it. Why not?
I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

                  M1 carb...
you can get new barrels and when you clean it up, you might be suprised what you find... esp. if it is a rare reciever... I'd clean it up... soak it in break free and then a nylon brush and then 0000 steel wool very lightly and try cleaning the barrel with some JB... i did that with an 03a3 that started looking like a rusted pipe and will shoot 5 rounds of fed. 165 gr into a hole you can cover with a nickel... my gun had been in a light fire and the guy had thrown it into the garage... I got it for 35 bucks... and have killed a number of deer and pigs with it between me and my brother... you might be very suprised... and you can get all of the trigger parts too... they might even be buried where this was... got a friend with a metal detector?... be ware of the dreaded m2 carbine parts though... that was a switch that was on the left side of the reciever but was really mounted to the trigger group... which might explain why someone buried it....

Wanna sell it? I will give ya $30..

I would be the kind of person who would tear it down and see about restoring it, if it's even possible...

This. Just bolt a POS pistol grip on it and get like $200 since it's an "assault weapon" free money

What you found is a derelict Universal carbine.

For you NFA buried treasure dreamers, it's not an MG. Barrel even looks to be original and of legal length.
The way some gunshop clerks spout off, you'd think that they invented gunpowder and the repeating rifle, and sat on the Supreme Court as well.

Looks like non-GI M-1 Carbine, Universal or Iver Johnson type.

Report it. Maybe LE will come out and finish digging up your yard for you, looking for more gun parts. Point out that you thought you saw more stuff deeper, right where you want to run your sprinkler lines.
