I am not a copsucker by any means but from what we do know I mainly support the cop in this. Why should he or any of us or especially our children have to suffer for the actions of a violent potentially deadly "tard" that his parents can't control?

I'm tired of suffering throughout life for other people's problem children and pets. Imagine if the cop would have been White there would have been rioting.

I'm surprised more of you parents haven't come out in support of the cop. I don't have children but if I did and anyone threatened them harm I can imagine how many of you would act and feel.

If you can't control your tard them don't bring him out in public, simple as that. Better for them better for you, better for me.

I don't dislike retarded people I feel very sorry for them and my mother worked with them for years.

Seems harsh. Unless their son had a history of violence, why would they be expected to keep him locked up in the house?

And why wasn't there this level of parent blaming when a teenager with an illegally acquired rifle crossed state lines and killed 2 people?

Please educate yourself on the facts:

The "kid", who was a 32 year old MAN, a BIG 32 yo MAN who should have never been out in public while off his medications and the parents are solely to blame. That big 32 yo "kid" attacked a man holding a 1/1/2 year old child in his arms... a child who could have been easily killed or seriously and permanently injured had he been dropped by his father when his father was attacked! A child that could very easily have been killed or seriously injured if the attack continued on a man whos ability to defend himself in a CQB situation was impaired by the need to protect the young child in his arms...

The admission that the victim had been taken off his mental illness meds by the parents, and the parents knowing that the kid was schizophrenic and might be unpredictable is a huge win for the defense!

If you're a life long criminal they say they aren't going to prosecute the "use of firearm" enhancements. If you are a first time offender they're going to go for every enhancement they can find?

Grand jury

The Riverside DA should have done the right thing rather than sweep it under the rug. But since he didn't here we are. I'm pretty shocked that there might be some justice handed out though since I'm pretty used to there being none.

What should riverside have done?

He could have charged him in lieu of a grand jury like the majority of the people he prosecutes. You dont need to go to a grand jury to prosecute. The reason he chose to present it in front of a grand jury instead is? Read below.



Another member explained it pretty well in another thread so I will just post it here:

"The thing is that the DA gets to pick and choose what he wants to present to the Grand Jury, it doesn't have to be complete and it will always be secret so they could have presented just the officer's side of the story with no other witness statements to guaranty that the officer wasn't charged.

DA's often present purposely weak evidence to make a public show of them trying to get "justice" without actually doing anything to risk the police officers involved."

Then the DA can say: Oh Well I "tried" This takes the some of the heat off of him from people who are concerned by this shooting while simultaneously maintaining his "I support the police, tough on crime" cred. and LE association endorsements. Remember DA's are politicians. We have seen numerous unjust politically based prosecutions by activist DA's. On the other hand DA's , AUSA/ USA's have also been known to not prosecute for what appears to be for political reasons. I have no doubt the state AG is largely doing this for political reasons. But in this case I have little doubt that the goods are there for this to at a minimum go to trial. Let an actual jury decide.

I agree. But the DA did take it to the GJ and could not get an indictment. That tells me the case is weak and that the CA AG is a political POS, but I already knew that.

If a prosecutor wants a no-bill, he can often get one with the way he presents to the grand jury. The same is often true for true bills (indictments). I strongly suspect the prosecutor did not want the GJ to indict so he could wash his hands of it and avoid going after the officer.

This case was one where I thought there was a legitimate reason to go after the officer.

Reading the article, they point out that one of his charges was "assault with a semi auto firearm". Is that a thing, or creative journalism to demonize semi auto?

Well they overused the assault rifle term so it doesn’t sound scary anymore so here’s your new buzz scary semi auto firearm word.

You clearly didn't read this thread or the law. Assault with a semi auto firearm is an enhancement over using other items (including non-semi automatic firearms). It has nothing to do with an assault weapon as defined by section 30515.
