Wait, who does not keep at least some mags loaded at all times?? I even have some set aside for the trip home from the range. In case someone tries to take what is mine.

As I said earlier I don't load magazines until I'm at my shooting lane at the range. I do not keep any magazines loaded at home. I only keep one gun loaded at all times and that's my HD revolver.

ditto. i count how many i fired with each firearm and when. I use that as a reference formula to subtract from a running total. similar to rodralig but slightly different, i color code a spreadsheet cell when i clean. for longuns, i may color code as a barrel only or a more detailed cleaning (like my beretta al-391 where it's a little of a pita to take apart the receiver to clean the receiver insides and all).

i actually did a full inventory in Q4 last year. all the way to partial boxes. and loaded mags for HD situation. yeah, i was bored.

With the spike of replacement costs for everything (guns, ammo, primers) I had to do an inventory to make sure I had enough coverage.

When I was growing up, Scrooge Mc duck cartoon showed a vault of gold coin. If they updated that cartoon, it should be a vault of primers and ammo

I counted and organized mine at the beginning of covid. That's probably the best thing that's about the shutdown is I've had time to catalogue, organize, and otherwise fondle guns and accessories I wouldn't normally have the time and energy for.

The only ammo I count is for my squirrel guns. I have 2000 rounds loaded for each of the three guns. That gives me roughly five days of shooting. I reload during the week to get inventory of ammo back up to full again. I don't load more than 2k for each gun at a time as I need to tweak the recipe as the barrels wear. I have two barrels getting near the end of their useful life so I don't get too far ahead on those.

I have a rough estimate of all loaded rounds and components and never seem to take the time to spread sheet them. I do have an accurate rounds shot count for the three guns above though.

Saturday I will be adding another 5-600 rounds to that count as it's time to go teach pdogs to fly again.

nope, ammo is made for shooting, its not a investment.

If I have it, I shoot it. Luckily I reload and this is not my first rodeo, I have plenty of components to reload with and because I am working from home the last year, I get to go to the range almost every week. I did learn something this time around though, at the rate I am shooting I only have 26 months of primers left, next time they become available, I need to increase my primer reservers to more than 3 years.

I did try to keep round count on each firearm for a short while, too much of a pain, all my guns are in the thousands of rounds, some ten of thousands.

About 4 years ago, Spreadsheet allowed me to get a number by caliber/maker/bullet wt/ amount/location. As I added in the past 4 years, I kept it up.

I don’t count rounds down range.

Heading for age 70 with 55k-ish in 13 Calibers.

Mom's 97 next month, so I think I might be a little short based on hereditary longevity.

Reloading will fill the gap.

If I ever plan to sell a firearm, I can be honest about round count.

I also track any issues such as misfires, loading, or ejection malfunctions.

None of my guns have more than 200 rounds down the pipe.

Yes, I maintain a spreadsheet inventory. I keep it on the same spreadsheet as all my firearms. I have it for three reasons: 1) so that I can keep track of what works and what doesn't in each firearm, 2) so that my daughter knows exactly what she is inheriting and how much it is worth, and 3) because it's fun. At one point I was actually keeping track of how many empties I had, but I thought that was a bit excessive!
