Glock is a fine handgun, as is Sig, Beretta, the 1911, etc. Militaries change firearms for many reasons, and generally not because the weapon is "bad".

Now as for the Hi-Point, it might meet some "miitary grade" standards. What are the Iranians using?
Wikipedia (don't usually trust Wikipedia) says iran uses a Sig Sauer p226.
I dreamed of owning a (insert off roster gun here)...

Oh yeah....then the earth splits open with me on one side and the (off roster gun) on the other. Then appeared a large red-glowing pit with gavin newscum, diane frankenstein and governor "brown the drain" at the bottom of it, waving their pitchforks at me.

          3) Questionable grip material, does make a safe chew toy for a dog though.

Glocks are similar to 1911s in one way, many people hate them and many people love them and neither side is going to change. There has to be a reason that over the years so many Glocks have been sold in countries all over the world.

Glocks are just what they were intended to be...

For their intended use, they are extremely good. They are designed to be a reliable, durable, inexpensive guns to own and maintain. They succeed in that goal.

Glocks are extremely reliable for many reasons. some big reasons are their simplicity (MANY fewer parts than most other guns) and their tolerances. Glocks don't have tight tolerances like Sigs for example and so some dirt can get in and they still work.

Wait, are you saying Glock 21 owners think they're shooting an Ed Brown?

Never shot me a Glock before...but looking forward to trying. Glocks are inexpensive and that is reason they sell so well. Blocky slide with long trigger pull. I can not get over how much i disliked the plastic sights, purchased replacement before pistol got out of jail.

Why so many aftermarket parts for pistol if it runs so well? I know last time at FrontSight, guy next too me shot more accurately. We got to talking and then he told me he upgraded almost every part of pistol before taking class, up too and including a custom fit match grade barrel. Hop up on his pistol was more than cost of gun itself. I was running stock p320 and he did not beat me on score, only tighter grouping...but i was tired, lol

I'm also a 1911 fan and have a Colt, a Springfield Armory and a small, medium and large Kimber. I recently picked up a Glock 22 which is the only semi-auto I own that's not in 45 ACP.

                                My turn...
You 1911 guys will like this.
I found this on Wikipedia about the Ruger p85 ...

"The P85 was originally developed as a replacement alternative for the U.S. Military's 1984 Joint Service Small Arms Program, a venture to replace the aging M1911A1 to a higher-capacity, more reliable, NATO-compliant weapon".
