If you are avoiding everything from Austria you might want to avoid the internal combustion engine (Siegfried Marcus), the printed circuit board (Paul Eisler), and alkaline batteries (Karl Kordesch), among other things.

Glocks are functional. As always this comes down to "Use what works for ya".

When I came back from the Navy with my Gen1 in 1991 my Dad absolutely hated everything about it. He was a 'Nam vet and very old-school cool.

                  Then he shot it.
And hated it even more. Because it shot really well. He still never bought one....he was stubborn like that.

I took it to the Front Sight 4 Day Pistol course that we attended toegther and DG'd on my first attempt with it. Had to borrow some of drop-free mags for the test since the older non-drop mags really slowed me down on the failure drills.

And in free states and freedom week you get a .45 that holds 13 +1!

                    Whats NOT WRONG with Glocks?

                    Consistent
                    Reliable
                    Decently accurate
High capacity (again, free states and FW)
                    Easy maintenance
                    Plenty of aftermarket
                    Military grade
                    Reasonable price (excluding covid wackiness)

I dreamed of owning a (insert off roster gun here)...

Oh yeah....then the earth splits open with me on one side and the (off roster gun) on the other. Then appeared a large red-glowing pit with gavin newscum, diane frankenstein and governor "brown the drain" at the bottom of it, waving their pitchforks at me.

That phrase always cracks me up. The media loves to use that when in reality a lot of the time "military grade" means "the lowest bid that we still paid too much for".

I'm not laughing about Glocks specifically or your post, it's just that phrase as it is so often used.

I thought Glocks were the workhorse of handguns. I had no idea that they were so hated. Personally I picked a p226 over the glock because it had a external hammer that I could de-cock and was made of steel and aluminum.

                          Agreed about "military grade"

                          Disagree that Sig P320 (M17 & M18) isn't worth at least $200 per unit

I have at least 8. They shoot like a gun should, but get boring over time. I tried modifying one. It was still boring to shoot, but looked good doing it. I've bought several other firearms too. Most recently is a XD-M Elite. I've since realized each gun has a different character. Glock is boring and reliable. Everybody wants a reliable friend in life. That's why they buy Glocks. Because there's buyers there will always be sellers.

If you took a SA XD9 and a G17 and a G19 and took a brand new shooter with no experience and had them hold all three, then shoot all three, I'd be willing to bet they'd choose the XD9 hands down for ergonomics/comfort/etc. Then once you told them the other 2nd and 3rd place choices were Glocks they'd say they prefer those instead. Simply because they're Glocks.
