Lucas Grease on the slide, barrel at lock up and muzzle end, Lucas oil on internals. Maybe there is a reason why Sig ships pistols with Lucas products?

What does the manufacturer manual says? if it says grease, then use it, if it says oil, then oil it is.

If it does not say either and just mention lubrication, you can use either.

I don't own a P226 myself but I usually use oil on semi-autos, and grease on O/U shotguns.

I use CLP for cleaning and surface corrosion resistance. I use grease on friction / wear points.

Mil-Comm TW25B is what they put a sample of in the box with a new Sig. That's not too sticky and a little goes a long way. Brownells have it.

I’ve been hooked on Breakthrough Clean Technology products and use their grease/oils. For me, grease on the rails and oil everywhere else. You can use all grease or all oil if you really wanted to. I feel like most of this stuff is personal preference. Lubrication is lubrication.

Can I continue my routine (like my other guns) with Hoppes 9 then CLP as lube...or should I use the grease for just my Sig.

The difference between using grease or oil when lubing the frame/slide of the 226 isn't how it lubricates, but persistence. The grease will stay where you put it whereas oil will run...leaving you with metal on metal.

The rule of thumb is, "If it slides, grease it. If it rotates, oil it"

The link to the Grayguns Lubrication thread, written by a friend, is spot on and comes from folks who have seen hundreds of alloy frames ruined by not using grease to protect them

I'm not particularly religious about lube and cleaning chemicals -- except for Eezox which seems to be the real deal for a rust preventative. (It may be toxic for all I know so read the MSDS.)

For the rails on all my autos I use Wilson Ultima Lube grease that dispenses from a syringe which allows very precise placement. Because it seems to work so well, dispenses so easily, and was relatively affordable, I figured it had been discontinued -- because isn't that the way it always goes? So I checked, and sure enough it has been.

Luckily I bought quite a few years ago and is still going strong. But it is pretty thick. And would probably choose something else if I were out in freezing weather with an auto.

Before you insist this post didn't offer any help, there are three takeaways: 1. Look into Eezox (not as a grease). 2. Get a grease that dispenses via syringe (that closes!). 3. Make sure a grease is not so viscous it will lead to operability issues when in extreme cold.

Grease the rails, barrel hood, and barrel muzzle, CLP or viscous oil on the inside of the slide and it will work it’s way around within the first few shots. The rails really need grease the most (especially at the rear closest to the hammer).

Just avoid getting any significant lubrication (oil or grease) in the firing pin channel as it will gunk up quickly.

I myself have been using Tetra grease for years but any thicker grease should work.

Not sure what's the big fuss over this - it's a SIG 226. I clean mine with CLP and use any gun oil or a thick edible grease used on ice cream machines, ever frog lube.......ANYTHING is Okay with a Sig 226 - it doesn't need babysitting - it's a top notch combat handgun.
