Can the police do anything based on a story alone? They will need a search warrant, will they not? Can they get a search warrant based on hearsay? The snapchat screenshot would have been great. But it's now gone and all OP has is a story.

The police can't do their job if they aren't informed.

I personally know a police officer that used social media to locate several missing teens.

Don't think just because you know how to work Snapchat that you are smarter than law enforcement. They have more knowledge and resources in these matters than you think you know. Let them do their jobs.

OP foolishly wasted valuable time thinking he needed to perform some kind of preliminary investigation.

Hell.. we were in middle school and carried a deuce deuce..shot street signs and dirt clods on our 1.5 mile walk back home. It was all country and fields..but had a dam good time going through a mini brick of hornets

I know what I'm going to do but just wanted to ask others.

My daughter showed me a group snapchat from a 15 year-old kid trying to sell 2 handguns.

What would you do?

Pack up all your belongings and move your family to a better area.

Well 1st off the schools did a wonderful job seeing that Nikolas Cruz and Travyron Martin were rehabilitated w/o any police involvement!

In fact the Obama era PROMISE program was the motivation to keep police out.

Now lets say that police get involved with this kid who is described as a dirt bag.
A few things could happen;

#1 the kid could get a police record which might keep him from an Ivy League school!

#2 something like this could keep the kid from attending OCS or even enlisting in one of our armed forces.



#3 He could go to jail or prison and that would stop in from finishing high School, which would not only hurt his chances to make lots of money. It would deprive the public school of about $ 16,000 per year.

for more really good reasons why police should not be involved, see the PROMISE program and or Chicago educator Robert Runcie who with Obama is the mastermind of this great program.

Oh as an aside when the public schools do not involve police they get 10s of millions of fed tax dollars as an incentive !
