How heavy was that safe? I went to the Format Safe warehouse in Orange County and picked up an EL 34 safe. Holds 54 guns and weighs in at 736#. With loading ramps, an appliance hand truck, 30' of rope, 3 tie downs, and a carpet remnant I was able to load and unload it by myself. Put it in my truck bed, tied it down, drove home and got it down, wheeled it into my garage and bolted it to the slab. Just sayin'. Where there's a will and some ingenuity you can do anything.

Expecting other people to haul your purchase is ridiculous, that's not their job and no reasonable person would expect some store lackey to load up their multiple hundred pound safe in their truck, especially for free.

You're absolutely ridiculous, believing a sporting goods store would load your many hundred pound safe to the back of your vehicle when they specifically offer a delivery service for this.

Either you load it by your manly self, or take advantage of the delivery service.

Edit; This is really a rant about being cheap. You wanted a cheap safe, you didn't want to pay for delivery, and you're mad they wont load it for you.
How would you have unloaded it anyways? It's absolutely ridiculous, if you had a plan to unload it, you could have made a plan to load it.

I like Turners. I realize its a mass merchandiser. I don't expect a lot except availability.

Being given wrong information though, and wasting your time, I understand your point. I do not like it when my time is wasted. Thats what I need a store for, get me in and out without hassle.

Sportsman Warehouse is bigger.
But turners I.think sells more guns.

But both sound like they have terrible service and marginal employees.

Undoubtedly a YMMV situation, I'm no shill but I would disagree in regards to the SW in Chico. I've found their service to be outstanding, employees willing to help/assist, knowledgeable, no pushy arrogant gun salesmen, and a huge selection of ammo.

Speaking of ammo, their prices are unchanged since the first of the year, and you can order online and they'll ship free to the local store for pickup if you find a good deal. In-store their ammo aisle is about 20+ feet long and from the floor to about 7-feet tall. With the new law, they simply placed glass doors on the shelves, and I've never waited longer than 45 seconds for assistance opening the doors.

Again, no shill for SW but I would say for a big-box store that employs a ton of local folks, they do pretty well. One thing I like is the entire store is dedicated to camping, hunting/shooting, fishing and the associated clothing and accessories. On the other hand, the local Dicks has probably less than 10% of their floor space dedicated to all of those activities. The rest is team sports, cycling, workout/exercise and absurdly overpriced brand-name "sportswear".

It seems there is more liability to Turners if some random guy is moving heavy safes in thier store. Than if thier employees (who are covered by their insurance) get hurt moving a safe.

If the wrong person finds out about Turners policy. They will purposely buy a safe, and pretend to get hurt moving it so they can sue Turners

^^ This I think. I purchased a RSC (Looks like a safe but I'm reluctant to call it a real safe) weighing in about 400 lbs from SW. Ordered during an online-only sale with free delivery to local store. Went to pick it up, head sales guy said "back your truck up to the side door" He rolled it out the door on a handheld forklift up to the tailgate and had a couple of young bucks gently load it in. I offered to help but he declined. Now, the moment it was loaded, he handed me a paper to sign stating any injury moving it from that point on was all on me.

My guess is that's their old policy and they now have a new no safe lifting policy. Either way that's frustrating. I always hear these horror stories about Turner's but I've had nothing but great experiences at the one in Oxnard. Even when I pulled a dick move on accident and showed up 20 minutes before closing to pick up a rifle they were cool.
I go to Turners for the prices, I can't seem to find halfway reasonable prices around here anywhere else.

People are ripping on OP for being arrogant / cheap / thoughtless in "expecting" these poor employees to load a safe for him. Doing a TL;DR is a help, not a substitute for reading. Turner's employees offered to load it, not once but twice, and it wasn't at his insistence. When things didn't go his way, he didn't make a scene, he left.

Anyway OP, two points: 1) Turner's is a mosh pit at an oversold concert for a band named FUD. Go there for a sale, not for any help or information. 2) West Coast Safes for safes and Rifle Gear or Ammo Bros for guns.

I don't usually say anything about such deals, I usually just walk away and am done with it.
I related my grievance as best I could and I received a positive response from Turner's.

I wasn't looking for anything for free. I would not have nor will I accept anything as compensation for my experience. I achieved the goal I was looking for and am good with that.
