    OC Armory needs our help

I just read this little disturbing bit on their website:

"Due to the slow down in business my days that the store are open will be changing. On days that I have work outside the shop we will not be open. Otherwise we will be open normal store hours and days. Where my dad can fill in he will. Please check the website as I will have a calendar up shortly showing any closed days. I appreciate all your business and hopefully things will pick up in 2018."

Let's go visit the shop more. Everyone needs to do their part! We lost 2A Zone last year. I don't want to lose another of my favorite FFLs.

I'm going to target more transactions in that area and buy whatever consigned guns they have.

Too many cheap gun owners to support any LGS for long...combined with an ever decreasing list of what you can even sell anymore...

As has always been the case, LGS need to adapt to survive. Part of owning a gun store in CA...

OC Armory handled all my SSE's, SAE's and out of state purchases. I never questioned their fees. There are no guns left that are Ca legal that I want that I dont own. I have nothing but the highest praise for Mike and his dad /staff. Sorry to hear that business is down...

Mike also handled my purchase of this...

There is probably not enough $$ in that to make it worth the handling and record keeping effort for a smaller LGS. You need to be doing a LOT of volume to make a go handling ammo transactions for online ammo buyers.

This is the case for many Californians who have been in the hobby for a while. With the Handgun Roster and the Assault Weapons Ban, the choices of interesting guns is severely restricted. The ammo ban restricts your choice in guns further if you have not stocked up on that particular caliber/chambering.

then what the FFL can do is take a special order of ammo. instead of the customer ordering from an internet dealer and delivering it to the FFL, the store can place the order with their distributor and sell the inventory.

Again, ammo is a commodity easily shopped by the gun owning public. Nothing worse for a small LGS owner than investing in a lot of ammo that you end up having to sell for no profit because a competitor will sell for less.. again the margins allowed by the market wont make the risk worth taking.

I feel bad for local FFL's as well. I tried to buy accessories when I go in for PPT's. But since they don't stock that much , it does not work out too well.

Great shop and great people, but we all knew CA was rather quickly strangling off anything for them to actually sell.

Ha ha well that's pretty awesome! Yep, as far as CA legal guns I pretty much have them or I don't want them. The antis have done a great job taking the fun out of buying guns here, but of course any thug can get his hands on an on or off roster gun and jack the 7-11 just the same.

SSE was fun... almost like living in a free state for a while.
