Of the thousands of Rolexes sent in for repair, the company claims that they are because of shooting?

One of my former bosses rarely if ever went shooting... but I used to joke about him getting a new Rolex every few months because it seemed like he was always wearing a loaner. His wife was sorry that she bought it for him.

I typically don't but accidentally did once, after a business meeting we decided to go straight to the range and I forgot to take the Rolex off. Shot variety from a magnum revolver to M1A and AR10 in 308 and there were no issues with the watch, it held time fine.

I don't "wear a watch with my gun", but I wear a watch and a gun.

I never really considered the impact of firing a gun on my watch. Probably because I've never had any issues and never really thought about it.

yes, i wear mine. I only own 3 watches, all Rolex's, I only bought one, the other 2 I inherited. The one I bought I have worn for 29 years and gone through thousands of rounds, maybe 100,000 in that time, watch still works great. I now go with my Dad's watch, he bought it in 1961 and it never went off his wrist, it was the only watch he owned. I NEVER take my Rolex off and my watch has the weld splatter on it to prove that along with other shop scars. A Rolex is not a fragile watch.

Don't forget luminox makes some pretty cool watches that aren't overly expensive. Ive had 2 that were great for years. I got a new seal version for x-mas and its pretty beefy feeling. The tritium glows damn bright too

                          Like the man says (above)

I wear a Luminox F117 Nighthawk and just like they claim, it is always visible.

I just read an article on one of the gun blogs where a current special forces operator recommended a good mechanical watch over cheap digitals because you can trust the mechanical watch in weird circumstances where electronics fail.

I never have, and never will take of my watches when shooting.

That instructor didnt know what he was talking about! I wear mine while shooting all the time, they are built to withstand a lot of beating, never had an issue yet.

Link, please? I'd be interested in hearing his rationale.

AFAIK a GShock is more durable, accurate, and reliable than any mechanical.

Maybe he's talking about cheap digitals like those found on Ebay for <$5?

I'm very fond of mechanical watches and I own quite a few, but they are - pardon the pun - anachronistic.
