My EDC rolex gets serviced roughly every 5 years. I pay +/- $550, I guess that's one of the reasons that they are premium watches. Just like premium cars, boats, planes etc...they are very well made, complex devices and require very skilled craftsmen to maintain them thru time... but if you do they will last long after you are gone.
Whats the old saying... penny wise, dollar dumb? Who knows but one of the hallmarks of the finer things in life is that they are built to last...IF you take care of them. Cheap crap... will eventually fail no matter how you take care of it.

Just a smart watch like fitbit or samsung gear 2 blue toothed to my phone. Small and functional. Perfect time and can see calls and messages easily.
Fancy mechanical watches are just obsolete jewelry to me.Comment

Its true a premium watch is an object of delight ! I do wear my 18k and stainless speedmaster frequently when I wear a suit,HMS sport coat or silk shirts. My EDC rolex gets serviced roughly every 5 years. Call me Scotch, but I prefer to delay the repair/service costs by not using it as EDC . 1 nick on the gold bezel is 200 ! That said the EDC $500 Casio ABC is very easy to live with. It has dual time zones, alarm, stop watch,Altimeter, barometer, compass and appears indestructible! Its crystal doesn't scratch and it automatically changes time zones.
As for premium cars requiring repairs/ maintenance my last 2 Cadillacs cost me zero the 08 with 74000 and the 11 with 95000. My GF premium Honda on the other hand needed 6K at 100,000 ( timing belts etc ) which I attribute to poor engineering.
As a side note the 6k didn't bother her!
I am not criticizing your point of view. Just pointing out different ways of enjoying ones resources .Comment

Try weld splatter on a 2-tone gold/stainless submariner, nicks on the bezel are minor, but the bracelet was introduced to a grinding wheel once. I won't own a gun I wont shoot and I wont own a watch I wont wear. I wore my 2-tone for 28 years, it was my only watch and I never took it off. The watch is expensive to service, but send the bracelet to Michael Young in Hong Kong and it will come back better than new at 1/4 the price of Rolex repair. Watchwerks in L.A. will service the watch itself for a decent price. If you do it right, you can get absolutely great service equal to that of Rolex itself, for a lot less money.
I fully agree that everyone has a way of enjoying their resources but I just don't understand the people that have a Rolex and only wear it to weddings and funerals. Just because I don't understand does not mean its wrong

EDC watch (in regards to your carry gun) for most people can be anything you want it to be. It's just a watch...unless you have to be tacticool 24/7.
Now if you're doing range work (not just static shooting at a bench) then you should probably wear the appropriate watch. That's either my G-Shock or my Citizen Promaster (just ordered).

Traser Commander 100 Force. I still keep its predecessor, a Citizen Eco-drive, on hand for use as a beater, but haven't worn it much.
Both watches have experienced thousands of rounds, considering the amount of testing of new and repaired firearms that I do. Neither have shown any problems. I will say that the Traser's sapphire crystal is wonderfully scratch resistant.I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!Comment
