Don't own a watch or cellphone.
Lucky enough to be in a position to where neither matter.
Kinda like my dogs, I live in the moment.
    Don't expect anyone to understand.

What do I wear with my gun? The same old piece of junk Seiko self-winder I've had for 20 years. Was I supposed to buy a fashion piece to help state my tacticalness when I wear a gun?

Like the old "Carburetors over fuel injection" argument. Of course, mechanical watches fail as well. And the same weird circumstances that cause a digital watch to fail could in turn affect the accuracy of a mechanical watch. So I guess you take one of each.

            Yep... depends on the situation.

Physical shock would have to be pretty intense to damage a quality digital. Cracked crystal or loosened solder joint would be most likely... and anything that could do that would destroy a mechanical watch.... digital wins.

Electrical discharge? Mechanical would tend to be more resistant to that, but they are impacted by magnetic fields.... still, mechanical wins.

Not my EDC watch, but when I go to the range I wear my $9.95 Casio.
              Never a problem.

At one time my favorite was an Omega speedmaster. While this beautiful watch was a delight to look at, it unfortunately after a decade of use required repair. The service center in NJ charged around $700 for repair

Calgunners who wear premium watches for ED use will attest to the repair cost of every mechanical watch. How about it Rolex,Omega,Patek Philipe and other premium watch wearers!

Now my very day watch is a Casio PRO TEK ABC watch that uses solar power to keep the battery charged.

AFAIK a GShock is more durable, accurate, and reliable than any mechanical.

Maybe he's talking about cheap digitals like those found on Ebay for <$5?

I'm very fond of mechanical watches and I own quite a few, but they are - pardon the pun - anachronistic.

I've been looking for the past 30 mins and can't find it, it was on Facebook. I do recall someone in the comments saying they went through several G-Shocks on a deployment before buying a Rolex.

He said Rolex told him they recently discovered that almost all warranty issues involve watches worn while shooting.
That sounds...wrong. Rolex subs are designed to withstand pretty demanding conditions, so function should be unaffected. You might scratch up the ceramic or case though if a piece of hot brass hits it, but the beauty of a nice stainless watch is a few scratches just add character.

My EDC rolex gets serviced roughly every 5 years. I pay +/- $550, I guess that's one of the reasons that they are premium watches. Just like premium cars, boats, planes etc...they are very well made, complex devices and require very skilled craftsmen to maintain them thru time... but if you do they will last long after you are gone.

Whats the old saying... penny wise, dollar dumb? Who knows but one of the hallmarks of the finer things in life is that they are built to last...IF you take care of them. Cheap crap... will eventually fail no matter how you take care of it.
