OK, Thanks. I'm needing to bring back another whole case of 30-06 ball, and wondered how I might get the last few rounds up there. If I grind up some ibuprofen and mix it with butter, then coat the whole case with it, it may ease the pain while waiting in that long line for ammo checks.

This might be a little late for this thread (buried on page 2), but we've received no direction from either the legislature or the Commissioner on how this will be enforced. In other words, from my understanding as a road Officer, this is a non-issue.

With that being said, I'm sure you knuckleheads can & will dream up some way in which an individual could get themselves in trouble. Of course, and as idiots do, someone will find a way to make it happen. I say this with affection and all due respect.

I travel multiple time outside the state and have been doing so for almost 50 years...in 2013 coming back into CA on I-5 from Oregon we were told to pull over to an area and the searched the truck and trailer...inside an out with 4 people and mirrors looking underneath and a dog.

Even went through the fridge in the trailer. First time ever! The two other rigs in our party were not searched...it was almost like a trip coming back into the USA from Canada back in the 80's...except US customs threw everything we had in the trailer out into the wet parking lot...clothes and cushions...when they were done the left and we had to put everything back!...anyhow we were all surprised that they did this coming from Oregon to California...

Fast forward to June 2017 on I-80...coming back from a trip to Montana...same exact thing..."pull over there"....

Searched the trailer only this time.

Probably in big box stores, like they already do. Also in stores near big corridors. Unless there are internal memos sent out to all stores neighboring CA, it will take a while before stores realize Californians aren't allowed to buy ammo in CA without a permit anymore.

In Reno they ask for ID when buying mags because of those damn Californians.

Really? I bought California defined large capacity magazines in Reno as late as this last summer. They are for my my CC guns when I am out of state as I have both NV and UT CCW permits. These +10 round mags do remain out of state stored at the homes of friends and relatives so I can pick them up when I drive over the state line. I have never been asked for ID.

Last summer, my son was with me and he was buying ammo and they asked for ID to verify he was over 21. He showed his CA DL and the cashier asked him how he liked his visit to a free state.

The reason cashiers ask for a zip code or area code is for marketing research. Stores like to know where to advertise and to know where they draw customers from. Politely decline or make one up.

There are so many ways to buy ammo and legally avoid the CA restrictions. Read the law and find one that works for you. Get the FFL03 and COE. Have a parent, grandparent, child, etc, send it to you from out of state. If you have people visiting you from out of state, they can legally bring all the ammo they want with them.

Getting caught the first time is an infraction. It will be a low priority for most LEOs. Look at all the fireworks that make it into this state. We know ammo will flow over the border and prohibited people will still get it after the BC are implemented. If you decide to rebel against the law by buying out of state when you are out of state and bring it back with you, be smart about it. Understand the risk and do not complain if caught and ask for help with legal expenses because you screwed up.

Is ammo in AZ or NV such an incredible deal and so much cheaper that it makes driving to those states worth the bother?? A round trip to Reno would take me 13 hours and cost $150 in gas let alone the wear and tear.

No, there is a law about buying ammo from outside the State and bringing it back.

(a) Commencing January 1, 2018, a resident of this state shall not bring or transport into this state any ammunition that he or she purchased or otherwise obtained from outside of this state unless he or she first has that ammunition delivered to a licensed ammunition vendor for delivery to that resident pursuant to the procedures set forth in Section 30312.

(c) A violation of this section is an infraction for any first time offense, and either an infraction or a misdemeanor for any subsequent offense.

Probably not.

We'll see as soon as WalMarts in CA get their Ammo Vendor Licenses sometime this month.

The true test will be in July 2019 when the law institutes some sort of ID and fee to buy ammo.
