You actually CANNOT walk into any mail service and hand them ammo to ship. Fedex and UPS both require ammo shipments come from a location with an account that receives regular on-site pickup visits (ie: a business).

You actually can walk into the post office with a flat rate box full of ammo and ship it. You're not supposed to, but you can and I have.

As far as shipping it without being sneaky, I've also shipped ammo from a home by UPS. It was declared as ammo and had the ORM-D label on it and they picked it up from the house. I don't know if that's changed now with the ammo law.

I had an Air Resources employee tell me to challenge the fine by sending a letter explaining that you were cooking. The fine will be waived.

The most I have ever gotten was whether or not we had produce. No is always the answer. Will they ask about ammo. Maybe, if directed to do so. But since they can only "inspect," not likely.
Going to buy ammo while on vacation, don't spend half your day at gun stores and Cabelas so as not to draw attention to yourself.

How did they catch you? Someone come to the house or they just send you a letter/demand based on someone's accusation? I wonder about this since I use my fireplace regularly without checking the "no burn days" list and I have one extremely crappy neighbor that would report me in a heartbeat if she knew she could get me in trouble.

Depending on the circumstances I'd either toss the letter in the trash or challenge them to prove I was burning. If they had some proof I'd challenge them to prove I wasn't using it to cook. As far as I know it's legal to burn to cook even on "no burn" days.

I've had two occasions where the FD showed up at friend's houses while we had a fire going. "Sorry about the smoke that got you guys called out, we're getting ready to cook and the wood was a little wet and slow to catch". They probably knew we weren't gonna cook, especially on one of those occasions, but all they need is the right answer. On one occasion they were friendly and informed us that if we had just been burning for fun it would have been illegal, but "since you're somehow going to cook over that open fire that has no chance of holding a grill it's perfectly legal, please be safe, try to keep the smoke down so we don't get called again, and enjoy your meal"....we were all eating pizza while this conversation was taking place.

I wonder if that's a recent change, or if I was being dicked around. Both Fedex and UPS counter-agents refused to take my ammo shipment a few years ago, and I don't recall seeing the bit you highlighted in the policies back then.

Protect themselves from what? There is no law stating that a non Nevada resident can't buy ammo in Nevada. There is no California law stating that a California resident can't buy ammo in Nevada while in Nevada. So exactly what law would they be "protecting themselves" from?

In Reno they ask for ID when buying mags because of those damn Californians.

In Vegas too. I don't recall the specific store, but one place asked me for I.D. I went to another place and they said they didn't care where I was from.

Why?

We go to Nevada every year for training and shoot thousands of rounds. Given California's current climate I will not be taking Ammo I bought in Calif. to those trainings anymore, I will be buying in Nevada. Nothing at all illegal about a Nevada Gun shop selling me ammo.

Yes.

They are located every 1 mile from the CA state line for 50 miles. You can't see them but they are there, so be afraid. Be VERY afraid. If you get stopped and they find ANY ammo on you, you are done.

There are exceptions however. If you are an illegal alien with a stolen, unregistered weapon in which case they will provide you with additional ammunition and allow you to bypass all further checkpoints for the next 6 months. If you have any convictions or warrants, the checkpoint bypass goes up to 1 year. If you claim you have been discriminated against it goes to 2 years. Additional exceptions include being an oppress minority (6 month bypass), an oppressed female (8 month bypass) or a Hillary Clinton supporter who wants to kill Trump voters, Republicans, Christians, Men or any non-people of color (6 month bypass).
