In Reno they ask for ID when buying mags?

Is there another Reno I don't know about?

I've driven into California bypassing the AG inspection stations on a number of roads, all of them PAVED. On board air is there to avoid tire surprises.

I'm at the Walmart in Pratt, KS.
Looking at a wall of ammo and long guns.
Guess I could buy 50 rounds. Or can I only return with 50 rounds I left CA with?

Remember you left ca with 1000 round, your prior SGA receipt on your phone said so. You didn't have any out of state range time due to heavy workload and therefor retuned with 1k. That should do it LOL.

The 50 round limit on bringing back into the state was part of SB 1235. Prop 63 does not have that provision and overrode SB 1235, so you can not legally return with any.

Now, if you decide to ship it to a spouse, parent, or child back in CA then you do not need to go through an ammunition vendor in CA.

              30314.
              (a) Commencing January 1, 2018, a resident of this state shall not bring or transport into this state any ammunition that he or she purchased or otherwise obtained from outside of this state unless he or she first has that ammunition delivered to a licensed ammunition vendor for delivery to that resident pursuant to the procedures set forth in Section 30312.
              (b) Subdivision (a) does not apply to any of the following:
              .
              .
              .
              (6) A person who acquired the ammunition from a spouse, registered domestic partner, or immediate family member as defined in Section 16720.
The way the law is written, you could give it to your spouse or she could give it to you while you are out of state, and then you could drive it back into CA. Note, the law does not say anything about where the transfer has to take place, it only says those that acquire ammo from a spouse or immediate family member are exempt from having to deliver ammo to a LAV when bringing ammo into the state.

So write a gift letter to pack with the ammo and drive back or if you are not comfortable with that, box it up, label it with a ORM-D label, then drop it off at a UPS facility to ship it home. You can have your spouse ship it to you or you can ship it to her.
Anyone can look around and see the damage to the state and country inflicted by bad politicians.

A vote is clearly much more dangerous than a gun.

Why advocate restrictions on one right (voting) without comparable restrictions on another (self defense) (or, why not say 'Be a U.S. citizen' as the requirement for CCW)?

I do not think this is how the law is intended to work but none of us really knows until it is tested.
I would love for it to be as simple as transferring from on spouse to another because my wife and I make frequent trips to Reno because we live about 80 miles away and all her DR's are there. We make a monthly Costco run and always top of with gas too because its cheaper there.
It would be nice to stop in at Cabelos, Scheels or any other place that has a sale on ammo from time to time.
I hope sometime soon we get some definite confirmation on these loop holes but for now I'll probably just go to my local Wally World.

In my non-legal-professional opinion, I think that part of the law is to allow for a surviving spouse or family member to take possession of ammo after the owner passes. Other gun laws do not allow for transfer of certain regulated items such as AW's and 50BMG rifles after the death of the owner.

It's hard to tell " how the law was intended to work" when prop 63 passed, but that is how it is written. They aren't loopholes, they are exemptions specifically spelled out in the law. Read it... it's CA PC 30314.

It's probably been 10-12 years, but in Vegas, none of the gun shops around the strip would sell any mags to CA residents. We went out to Henderson and found a shop that didn't care.

The Air Resorces Board fined me $50 for wood burning on a no burn day...second offense is to be determined. How do they get away with it? No chance to challenge accusors. No judge. Just pay.

(Edited to add: the post below is incorrect.)

If I can be blunt without it being considered rude: that's not how to ship ammo.

You actually CANNOT walk into any mail service and hand them ammo to ship. Fedex and UPS both require ammo shipments come from a location with an account that receives regular on-site pickup visits (ie: a business).

I've written up my ongoing adventures as I learn to hunt.

Yes, you CAN fit a case of shotgun shells into a .50cal ammo can.

I think i found an optimal solution for ammo can labeling.

I made this target for the NRA's Marksman pistol test. I think it's a lot better than the paper plate they suggest.

For all the Jabber about you not needing to permit your vehicles to be inspected at ag check points, explain this guys convictions? https://www.theunion.com/news/local-...o-convictions/

The elder Feinman, of Lakeport, was convicted of obstructing or resisting an officer by using threats or force, failing to obey the lawful order of an officer and refusing to comply with an inspection. He represented himself, Newell said.

His son was convicted of obstructing or resisting an officer by using threats or force. He had a public defender, the district attorney added.

Initially facing felony accusations, the Feinmans were convicted of misdemeanors.

When you are not in CA, you aren't bound to CA law. You can buy whatever is legal in the state you are in.

Gambling and prostitution are illegal in CA. However, you don't see the casino's and whore houses blocking CA residents because it is not legal in CA, do you?

It is 100% legal for a CA resident to buy a standard capacity magazine in Nevada. You can use it in Nevada, Arizona, Oregon, Washington and many many other free states. You may not bring it back to CA unless you permanently block it first.

You can leave it in NV at a vacation house you own. You can leave it with a family member. You can leave it in a safe deposit box. You can sell it before you return to CA. You can even give it way before you leave to CA. Heck, you can probably bury it in the desert before returning to CA.

If you need/want a standard capacity magazine while out of CA, ask to speak to manager and explain how you aren't bound to CA law when not in CA. Just as they are not bound to their NV law when in CA.
