ok Glock 22 and 27 is what is carried by Patrol units
1911 by swat
now as far as 2ndary weapons you can use almost any weapon from the following authorized manufacturers: Glock, Smith & Wesson and Beretta.
but for practical reasons I would
i would chose a subcompact glock in the same caliber of your primary carry
reason being
You can take the full sized magazines from your primary and insert them into your 2ndary
therefore you do not limit your fire power in anyway other than having a weapon that will have a higher recoil due to its smaller weight and size.

PS. Do me a favor and if I am incorrect or you believe differently please tell me so, but articulate your reasons as to why.

K9 uses the Benelli M1s, as well as the narcotics guys.

The motor officer you saw was probably retired. They work security for the movie studios, wear LAPD uniforms (with their 'retired' badge), but ride their own bikes. They try to make them look as authentic as possible. Retired guys can pretty much carry whatever they want, so if you saw a Sig, he was retired or carrying an unauthorized weapon.

1911's - SWAT, Metro, SIS, Narco and Chief's security.

Everyone else - Glock, S&W & Beretta. 9mm, 40S&W, .45 and .38's for the old-timers. That's it. On or off duty. Recruits are issued Glock .40's.

Whatever you were issued is what you get. Anything else you want you have to buy yourself. No trade-ups.

...of course the powers that be are constantly changing the rules, so your mileage may vary.

I was issued a Colt 6 " 38 spl!!! Up graded to a 4" S&W 15-3. When they went to the Beretta 9mm, I got one of those, then a Glock 22, Glock 21 also.

I was issued a Colt 6 " 38 spl!!! Up graded to a 4" S&W 15-3. When they went to the Beretta 9mm, I got one of those, then a Glock 22, Glock 21 also.

4" Revolvers (model 15's then Model 67's) were issued from the early 70's until they switched to the Beretta 92.

6" Revolver would have been issued in the late 60's or very early 70's
