you can send messages to family members and A: they maybe be confronting him or B: they're in on it with him. It happens a lot.

One thing to consider: messages received from people who aren't your friends on FB go to a separate tab labeled "Message Requests" instead of the general inbox. The majority of users don't know this and never look to see these messages so there's a good chance they won't even read them. If at the bottom of your message it says "Seen at" with the time and date you know they read them, otherwise they probably haven't.

It's a lesson learned for me, and maybe a headup for anyone else, plus I don't expect to get the money back. Hope that karma will come to him

Not necessarily. If he doesn't show up and OP doesn't have any information on the defendant then he is kind of screwed on getting the judgement. Unless he has his bank information then he can file a bank levy.

If he doesn't show up to court than OP wins by default. Winning the case doesn't do much since its up to the OP to collect the money. However, there's many ways to do so. One of which you mentioned.

But since we now know where he works you can submit a writ to garnish his wage. Not sure how it works out of state, but here in CA you get the submit the writ to the city court, give it to the sheriff department, pay the $30 fee and they will take care of the rest.

Got a call from Arizona PD, and I told them every detail about this case. The detective said it sound more like a civil issue, but let's see what he can do. Hopefully they can catch this dickhead

Not much you can do from a distance except waste a lot of time and effort. You can trash him on Facebook, send written fraud complaint to his local PD and demand some sort of case number and keep writing the letters until you get one. If he is working for somebody start sending messages to his workplace. Does he have some sort of state license? File a fraud complaint.

Stink up his life and make him want pay you make and hope you just go away.
