No luck with local and AZ LE agencies I assume? Time to start contacting his family members again. Explain to them you're sorry to reach out to them again, but he's not replying to you anymore about your refund and you just want to make sure he's not "in the hospital" again.

As others have said, this guy appears to have scammed you and he's not giving up. It seems to me you have two choices: (1) accept you financial loss as a lesson learned and forget about the money (but feel free to contact the family again, as well as his employer); and/or (2) pursue a claim, most likely in small claims court, and then seek to have it enforced in AZ (which might mean taking it to superior court).

The later may involve more costs than is worth trying to pursue on a purely financial analysis (especially given his ability to pay), but also may generate some psychological satisfaction. I've started down the path in option 2 before (because I hate the idea of an A*hole getting away with this crap), but also failed to follow through in my circumstance - it felt like too much time and effort to me at the time and I let it go.

But I'd love to live vicariously through you to see this guy confronted by LE to enforce a judgment given his treatment of you (you have to live it; I can eat popcorn on the sidelines). Sorry @iArmy - there are serious jerks out and about and you appear to have run into one.

[EDIT: Cross posted while the full text exchange images were loading. That picture of a wrecked car may be important [/sarcasm]. I mean, it's not like the guy has ever operated a tow truck and would be called to the scene of an accident. Not going to re-read the whole thread - did his 4 month convalescence overlap in any way your meeting him to purchase the firearm?]

Well, this scam artist is obviously an experienced scammer. He's right about one thing. Law Enforcement probably won't be much help. Unless this guy is wanted for murder, they'll just tell you "It's a civil matter....sue him."

Odds are the metadata is stripped out of the .jpeg car accidental he sent you, but take a look at it anyway, as well as google image search the image or google search the title of the image. My guess he snagged that pic off the internet.

Text him a copy of a random PAST DUE bill and tell him you have to pay bills as well. I would keep contacting his facebook friends and let them know what he did as much has I can forever and ever. Spend a solid 10-15 min/day for the rest of your life doing that. As far as money goes.... you will never get it back. I hope I am wrong but I doubt it. Sorry you meet this dirt bag op.

Eff it, Army.....take the perp's advice and go after the money through legal channels. The longer it goes, he will feel even more emboldened to never pay you, as he sees you're not one to push.

He's been given multiple ultimatums....he's not scared of you. Hit up his relatives again....find out your legal recourse.

Don't make his crappy life problems YOURS.

Draw the line....crap on him or get off the pot.

Damn I have gone this far with this and have to wait till the 26th. It's like your favorite show and its season finale is a whooper then it breaks for the summer.
                      Good luck OP.Tagged

Just sue him already. You have his driver's license, so hire an investigator to track down a bank account after you get a judgment, he can be liable for your court costs and investigator. If you need an investigator then PM me, we use them all the time at my firm. (this isn't legal advise)

You can't possibly think a thief would be concerned about his victim's past-due bills. That would require a conscience. If he had one, he couldn't rip people off in the first place. Such people can't be shamed into honesty because scamming people is what makes them PROUD of themselves. They see themselves as clever.

I know; I have a scam-artist brother like that. And he's in the perfect business - auto repair. His favorite saying is, "I f--- everybody."

You have already wasted more time and energy than $400. Time to move on. The people suggesting you contact law enforcement are silly. They will do nothing here. It's a misdemeanor at best. Do you really want to pay an attorney to get this back?

What is your usual charge? And do you guarantee results?

                                .

it sucks, but this is looking like the best course of action. in general, no one will give a **** about internet crimes unless a credit card is involved.
