Airports are controlled by the feds. Airport property is federal.
However... try checking a firearm at JFK or LaGuardia. Port Authority will be on your *** so fast.Comment

Congresswoman Wasserman-Schulz of Florida - yeah that one that was fired for rigging the election for Hillary - has already stated the Congress may want to look into banning transporting guns in checked baggage.
I love how these politicians talk out their *** without realizing the repercussions that a lot of people (professional sport shooters, hunters et al) depend on this mode of transport to get to events.
One incident and they'll use this to do it. Luckily there is a Republican Majority in Congress and unlike California cooler heads will prevail.Comment

KNX radio had a bit from the director of HLS at LAX... and he sounds like the ultimate hoplophobe; a title for which I thought only those with a uterus were capable of, when talking about persons who may transport a declared firearm.
That said, another! person in authority suggested that "that won't change"... If I want to take my rifle with me on a hunt, it will be checked baggage and according to existing airline protocol.
This is some of the worst knee-jerk reaction to a madman I have ever seen.Last edited by 200Apples; 01-07-2017, 9:44 AM..

All of the airlines that I have flown in the last few years when carrying a firearm (AA, DL and UA) all require you to pick up the firearm from the Airlines baggage claim office, not from the baggage claim belt. I've had to show ID at all of them to get my bag from the airline.
Wondering what the airline procedure was at the airport in FL where this happened. Then again if he went to the mens room and armed up, nothing like what I just described would have stopped him.Comment

Why does one need a uterus to be a hoplophobe? What am I missing?Originally posted by cockedandglockedGetting called a DOJ shill has become a rite of passage around here. I've certainly been called that more than once - I've even seen Kes get called that. I haven't seen Red-O get called that yet, which is very suspicious to me, and means he's probably a DOJ shill.Comment

The Airlines might change up the pick up procedure. The Federal Law concerning
Transport won't change....
I think we would be surprised how many thousands of guns are transported everyday without incident.
News reports that this guy had known mental issues and nobody did anything.

Oh learned Librarian, wisest of the wise, while I am always humbled by your gracious acts of group enlightenment, some how this news tidbit slipped by you. Florida airport shooting. Shooter had gun in checked baggage. Picked up bag, went to men's room, loaded up, came out shooting. While the CA state and local Prog legislatures are not in session, expect political pronouncements on Monday. San Francisco and LA will be the first to act.If you find yourself in a fair fight, you're doing it all wrong.

Tracker reportedOriginally posted by TheresagillanAnyone can access the bagage claim area, you can drive right in and park, grab your gun out of the car and walk right into the bagage claim area. You don't need to check a gun and ammo to get a firearm into that area. A ban on the ability to check a firearm on a plane would not stop someone from copying the events in Florida...

Not a single time have I had to pick up my bag anywhere other than the carousel. I do see rifle cases come off in the oversize section, but it is not manned.
It may be a function of which airports you fly as I have flown with guns on Alaska, Delta, United, and Southwest.
I've flown in and out with guns at San Diego, SFO, BOI, Spokane, Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau, Ketchikan, Billings, Bozeman, Missoula. Kalispell, Helena Cody, Jackson Hole, Denver, Rapid City and Sioux Falls.
