Many posts on here saying the OP should not get the helmet for SHTF. People saying you should be the gray man out. Walking around with your AR and plate carrier will not make you a gray man out. So why not have the AR and a ballistic IIIA helmet?

Am saving $$$ for a helmet. As they say, better to have it and not need; rather than needing it and not having it. It's all about risk mitigation.

I have a Level 4 plate at my bedside, along with my HD bag, ear protection and USP Expert 45.

My wife already has a soft armor Level 3a.

Maybe you had better get two helmets, so you can sit on one if going into a hot LZ on a helicopter in order to save your gonads...

Absofreak'nlutely. Be sure and get one with a Lexan face shield too. Just in case the BG tries to poke you in the eye. And don't forget your knee and elbow pads, plate carrier, and NVG. Don't forget ear protection.

Funny old thread, but glad I saw it.

The photo of the Tommy helmet reminds me of a helmet that belonged to a old timer WW1 vet my dad knew pretty well. 91st Wild West Division.

He got head shot by a 8mm which pierced the helmet and somehow bounced around, scarring the top of his head and then exited right above the entry hole forming a weird upside down keyhole.

Dang lucky, but it didn't save him from the mustard gas though.
