Welcome to Calguns OP where if you come here with little or no posts you are instantly labeled a troll or shill.

As a Paid Government Shill who hasn't seen you at the company meetings . . . I assume you are in fact new and came to ask a legit questions.

As Skyhawk mentioned these "whispers" have been coming in from various places and you are not the first person to post this.

CCW is one thing, some IAs allow 22lr others don't. I can see how SSE guns could eventually get phased out of all IAs, but confiscation of SSE guns? As mentioned before in this thread AB 1964 effectively legitimized all previous SSE by its mere existence, no?

What Skyhawk is referencing and what the OP is supposedly relaying, may as well be two separate topics entirely that just happen to be coincidental in nature.

The shill suspicion is based on the time of year in accordance with current legislation on high, the ludicrous claims by the O/P which are highly suspect for any LGS to say (even one of extreme FUD leanings) and where posts like this have nearly happened in "threes" the past several years between end of February to about May, before the trolls of the bored left go back to posting on Mother Jones or Moveon.org.

First couple of posts and this is it? I call BS.

He said that if they see you in possession of one, say on a range where they are practicing that they will confiscate the pistol and possibly open prosecution. The same goes for ARs that are home built out of an 80% lower.

So I can vouch for Placer County as can plenty of others who had SSE firearms and then were told in 2014 that we could no longer have them. You can also read about in the Placer CCW subforum here. I used to also be that guy who said 'my IA doesn't care about SSE on CCW' - and every gun I had on my permit was SSE. And then everyone with SSE in Placer county found out the hard way that a policy change was pushed by DOJ. I was told this by a CCW investigator.

There are plenty of other Placer users reporting stories:

Here are some similar stories out of Solano County - click on the little blue triangle to be take to the post and the thread for each:

                          VENTURA COUNTY

                          ?? COUNTY

There are others if you care to look. You can also find stories here of people who sent in volreg forms in an attempt to correct their SSE listing, that were rejected by DOJ. DOJ is not letting people self correct AFS for single shot anymore.

So this is how we find out - not with bugles and fanfare, not with any publication you can get your hands on, we find out from reports just like the OP. They trickle in, and at first, everyone thinks it must be a mistake. Then more reports come in - and after a year or so it is clear what is happening.

The DOJ will take every opportunity they can to jack with people who they feel took advantage of loopholes or gamed the system. That should come as a surprise to no one here. And it will continue as long as they can get away with it or we have a new administration. That's why everyone should be laughing nervously at the information provided in the OP.
Nice story, BUT. The reason they could tell it was a SSE weapon was because the DROS record showed it as a 25 cal but the weapon was actually a 9mm or whatever. Which is why correcting the caliber worked.

If it HAD been a push by DOJ like your bCCW instructor told you it would have been that way with ALL IA's which I personally know it was not.

                            All,

Let's please keep in mind that DOJ is without authority to prescribe "Rules" for the issuance of CCW licenses beyond the provisions in the Penal Code (and the rules that do exist primarily address the format of the license itself).

They cannot direct any agency to exclude any particular form of lawful weapon from a CCW license. If anyone has suggested that DOJ has issued any such "orders" then they are significantly mistaken.

DOJ does often provide informational materials to LE agencies that summarize issues of law, and changes made through the legislative process and/or published court decisions, but the agency is free to respond to that advice as they see fit.

As I've often pointed out in other threads, many LE agencies are expanding the use of civil law to seize improperly possessed, or improperly configured, weapons. Like any new enforcement practice, I would expect to see a slow start until enough case law develops to better define the boundaries of the practice.

I simply cannot see the CHP even coming close to taking the level of action proposed by the OP

Please place another vote in the "Massive FUD" category of the Calguns Ballot.

And please don't confuse off roster with SSE - they are two different things although people associate them.

If you bought the gun using a single shot exemption, and it has never been transferred again since then, it will be listed in AFS as single shot right now.

However if you moved here with it, or got it via PPT, or you were roster exempt (LEO), it will not be listed as single shot.

AFS is the CA DOJ Automated Firearm System. It lists, among other things, the CALIBER and ACTION of a firearm, as it was recorded at the last DROS or volreg etc.

How do you think Placer County Sheriff knows your pistol is SSE when you try to list it on your CCW? Why do you think so many people are going to the trouble to pawn/redeem or consign/re-DROS their pistols, or rebuy them as duplicates via PPT?

This isn't even a question. It is VERY SIMPLE for LEO to know if your gun was obtained via the single shot exemption during the most recent transfer. If you got the gun some other way than using the single shot exemption - as the original buyer from a dealer when SSE was still an option, then it wont be listed as SSE. So a gun can be listed as SSE in AFS originally, and then later the record can be cleaned during another transfer. But if the gun has never been transferred after the original SSE DROS, it is still listed as single shot in AFS.

I am not saying they are doing it out in the field like OP has stated he heard, but I am telling you right now this is a very simple thing for them to know. The only way to clean the AFS record of the information is to reDROS it as the correct action (semi auto) - which happens in a PPT, a pawn/redeem, a consign/reDROS, an OPLAW transfer, etc.

If you don't believe this is possible, then just try to add a pistol that you got via SSE to your CCW in Placer County and have never transferred again in a DROS, and you will see just how easy it is for them to know - when they deny your addition. If you bought that LCP using SSE - they will know, and you will not be able to add it to your permit. If it was on your permit, they will force you to remove it at renewal - they just started doing this within the past 2 years. If you bought it from someone else, then you are fine - even if the original buyer got it via SSE.
I understand the process...but how do they know its SSE by looking at it?

You blew right past the point. I am talking to an officer, how do they know its SSE? I know they can run the numbers but you said "And my point wasn't that this is happening, my point was that the CHP can simply and readily identify SSE pistols if they want to, when they come in contact with pistols. Let's acknowledge that simple truth, and we can get back refuting or confirming the story line in the orginal post." How are they doing that by looking at it? They will run its numbers and it will come back as simi 380...
