Bathroom Break - Leave Guns at Range Bench?

So you are blazing away, and nature calls. Do you leave your guns and gear at the shooting bench, pack it away until you return or...? Do you trust those around you?

Use the bathroom before the guns come out. Or, take a shooting buddy with you so they can watch the goods while your gone.

I have shot smallbore and highpower matches for decades, and competitors will loan you everything, and sell you good quality items for next to nothing, so theft among that group is non-existent. However, at the range, you are also dealing with the general public, and unfortunately, I would not leave valuable items unattended, unless I knew the range officer or other shooters near me.

I would never leave my firearms unattended at the range. You just never know these days.

I had an older Mexican gentleman hovering over me at the rifle range at Burro many moons ago. After about an hour of his antics I asked him what he wanted.

He wanted to buy my rifle. He was holding up money and his two buddies were smiling at me.

None of them spoke English very well and all looked as if they had just got off from a landscaping gig.

I told him no a couple times and then he tried to bribe me with a cold soda.

That was the last straw. He could have been decent and offered me a cold beer, so I called the Range Master over and he ran them off.

At outdoor ranges, if I have to go, I do it during ceasefires. RSOs watch the line when the range is cold, and they all know me and which guns are mine. At indoor ranges, I answer nature's call before I get to my lane.

Would you leave $1,000 cash on the bench ? Never, ever leave anything unattended at the bench.

Wife pissed me off last time we went to OC Indoor because she decided to sit in the truck and play with her phone rather than come inside.

The line was PACKED when I got there... whole room cleared out like magic once I started letting loose with the 45 and 357. Ended up with the place to myself, but was still looking over my shoulder between shots.

The cable lock is a good idea.

At th private rangeI go to, there are too many people looking out for any monkey business to take place. Everyone knows each other.

At the public range, I used to go to, I would leave my guns on the shooting bench during a cease fire and hustle. Despite all the criticism ROs would get at this place, you can't approach the benches during cease fires. But I would only chance this with long guns, not handguns that could be more quickly pocketed.

If you must be alone, kindly ask neighbors in both lanes next to to you to watch your guns.

I would sooner leave $1000 on the bench than ANY of my guns. There are too many variables at a public range. I would not want one of my guns to fall into the wrong hands. Just not worth it. Visit nature prior to busting out the firearms. Bring a friend. Lock them all up prior to visiting the head. NEVER leave your guns unattended ANYWHERE.
