Err... more along the lines of "I wish I had more space for all this ammo."

You would if enough and planning a move to a new home. SHTF and fighting gov posts make me laugh at times. You do need to remember the US took on and finally wore down what may have been the world's greatest most powerful military in the Revolutionary war. I doubt the gov would win a protracted guerilla war. Plus quite a few in the military and some police would not agree to kill their fellow citizens.

haha, I was thinking the same thing... 500-1000 rounds is the amount of ammo per caliber that I try to keep on hand as a bare minimum just to make sure I always have enough before a range trip. If I'm stocking up for SHTF or ammo shortage preparation, I'm looking at 5k rounds per caliber minimum. Double or triple that number if it's a caliber that you either have lots of guns for, or is your primary defensive caliber.

Granted, I'm nowhere near that goal either. But I do have over 1000 rounds of everything I own a gun for, and over 2k rounds of 12ga, 5.56, and .45acp.

I recommend you "bite the bullet" (haha) and grab as much as you can afford in the next couple months. It's not getting any cheaper than it is now, and it's likely to go up quite a bit after this year. The one exception is 22lr - you might wanna hold off on that one for now since it's not much cheaper than 9mm currently.
Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

In the event of a major natural disaster, I. e. earthquake or global war, having ammunition stocked up is very wise. When you get low on something you need you can BARTER ammo very readily. But, also stock up on gun powder, primers, bullets and brass in calibers of your choice.

SUGGESTION: Buy a electric generator (Honda motor) and convert it to propane. Get the largest unit you can wheel around with electric start AND

And this is why we had the ammo shortage, LoL.

              My $0.02:

              1. As others have already mentioned, most ammo (except shotgun shells) will out last you if properly stored. Russian SPAM cans and Federal fresh packs aren't necessary for most, the metal .30 cal or .50 cal ammo cans with rubber gaskets are good enough. Buy enough ammo to fill half a dozen to a dozen ammo cans and you're good for quite a while.

              2. Plan to store your ammo in a safe bolted to the floor/wall studs. Use tape measure to make sure your ammo cans or spam cans will fit nicely before buying the gun/ammo safe. Most gun safes can be easily defeated if not bolted down.

              3. Zombie apocalypse is a fictional scenario being exploited to sell more crap. In reality the zombies will be non preppers knocking on your door for a handout during short to intermediate term SHTF. Your guns and ammo do not deter grandma holding her starving granddaughter from knocking on your door to beg for food and water. Hopefully you actually stored food and water since you cannot eat your ammo.

              4. Consider a more diverse prep plan, such as a shotgun with less lethal ammo. In SHTF someone stealing from your fruit tree in the yard because they are starving should NOT be treated the same as a home invasion robbery with lethal force. If local hospitals are not operating, medical supplies may be worth more in trade than ammo.

              5. Think about what ammo were avail on the shelf during the last ammo shortage and buy firearms in that caliber. Example, .17hmr was easier to find than .22lr. For plinking, consider air rifles to save your ammo. Pellets can be found for as low as $1.72/500.

Price works out to a few dollars less than that Blazer Aluminum, and you can buy less than a case at a time.
                        9.99 X 9% tax (L.A.) = 10.89 X 20 boxes = 218, which is $2 cheaper than online price of 220 (no tax and free shipping).

However, you'd have to add gas and time to drive to Walmart, unless you're already there for weekly groceries.

I shoot about 200-300 rounds a week, so 1000 rounds go quick. I aint got no time to drive to Walmart fo dat.

You see, 1000 rounds is was we like to call around here, "a good start."

It also depends on the calibers you own.

5K of .22 LR.... that is far too little to consider it 'stock piling'.

5K of .338 lupua, well that is a bit more than what I would consider reasonable to store. Unless I could easily afford it.

Staple calibers should be kept at these suggested minimum levels:

                            .22 LR = 10K+
                            9 mm = 5K +
                            .357 Mag = 5K +
                            .40 S&W = 5K +
                            .45 ACP = 5K +

                            5.56 = 5K +
                            7.62 x 39 = 5K +
                            7.62 x 51 = 5K +

                            12 gauge = 5K +

These should be the minimum levels you should always have on hand. You should always buy more when you can afford it. You should buy this ammunition even if you don't have a weapon for it.

You are accountable to no one but yourself. If you think you can survive weeks, months or even years with your ammo count then that is all that matters.

No one would expect you to acquire this inventory overnight either. Buy 1 or 2 extra boxes when you can just for storage. In a few years you will start to see a growing inventory.

As suggested, ammo cans are the best solution for long term storage. Just make sure they have a good seal. Store them in a cool dry place.

Yup - look at it as a commodity. Buy more when it's relatively cheap, like right now. But keep buying.

It's almost never a bad idea to buy it. I bought those South African battle packs of 7.62 NATO for $28 each locally, which at the time was a ripoff since internet sales (which I couldn't do in my municipality at the time) had them for as low as $18. Now they're $100 each. My stocks haven't done nearly so well.
